Galleries come and go in Brighton, especially on the sea-front, but this one is as permanent as the whiff of country pancakes, and a lot prettier. Canvas upon canvas of doe eyed Fresian, Guernsey and Aberdeen Angus cows loom at your from every angle of this bovine wellspring. I’ve always been tempted to buy one for my front room as the colours are really uplifting and contemporary, but then remember those people who got chased and flattened by cows(the tally of cow deaths rises annually). Ever watched them weighing you up as wander over the Downs, they’re wondering if they can get away with it without anyone seeing them.

Two Kats & A Cow is an open studio and gallery on Brighton sea-front. Run by three local artists, it’s housed in a beautiful arch that looks directly onto the sea and beyond. Unfortunately, one of the artist’s paintings are primarily of different coloured cows on different size canvases. I can imagine these appealing to milkmen and farmers but wouldn’t dream of putting one on my own wall. Luckily, the two artists he shares the gallery with don’t specialise in canvases of cats but evocative and moody paintings of the sea, boats and the South East coastline. If you’re interested in checking the gallery out, please note it’s only open weekends throughout the year with extra dates over the summer.

One of the great pleasures of walking along the beach at Brighton is the artists galleries. Two Kats and a cow is one of them. The pictures ae displayed with obvious thought. The artwork is not cheap but when is it? John Marshall has art dominated by cows! Kathryn Matthews work is of boats, sea and houses. checkout or E-mail . Katty McMurray paints the sea and boats. Checkout or E-mail . Certainly a place that adds to the Brighton experience.
