Located on Souhville’s North Street, this is a little gem of a shop for all types of photographer, from the amateur to the seasoned pro, Bernard Hunter’s holds something for everyone. With a wide selection of camera’s both brand new and second hand on display, the shop feels like a photography mecca. As well as the fantatsic selction of camera’s, Bernard Hunter’s also stocks an unprecedented array of camera lenses for a variety of camera’s, which leave the avide phototgrapher drooling with excitement. Also the shopo offers a service to transfer your didgtal pics on to a cd and can even make prints for you. Prices for these services are competetive and when you consider that they are being developed by a business with such experience, you can safely be assured that they are in safe hands. Although I cannot admit to being an avid photographer, i do like to dabble in capturing shots and I know that if In was ever to want to take my interest in phtgraphy to the next level, then this would most certainly be the place for me to get all the equipment and guidance i would need!

I don’t think I know of any other city that has such a wide range of Camera shops, first and second hand, as Bristol. This has to be my favourite, most people you speak to in the City Centre haven’t heard of this shop(mostley because there legs can never be bothered to make the trip to Bedminster), but I think it’s the best one. The range of lenses are brilliant, from your traditional film camera’s(you know, the days before digital when there was that funny reel you had to put in the camera) to plenty of modern DSLR lenses. They had a brilliant selection of Fish eye lenses when I went in a couple of weeks ago(your 10″ ish lenses) as well as soom great zoom lenses, one 55 – 300 I nearly splashed out on, but then i remembered… oh yes… I don’t really have that kind of money! This shop is great because it pulls you away from reality, and while inside you feel like time stops and you can spend hours just looking(well I can anyway!) then when you leave you have to wipe your eyes and have a moment of reflection on that camera dreamland you have just been in!

God I love this shop, a stack of vintage and modern-ish cameras and lenses tantalisingly secured behind a grill — check out the window display before you go in. Staff don’t mind you browsing and know an incredible amount about the history of cameras, but are busy so you won’t get a full-on conversation going. You can find both still and video cameras — from Super-8 to the most gorgeous Hasselblad(a cool half a grand to you mister) that take all sorts of deleted film, but they do have modern SLRs and lenses that fit digital cameras as well so worth a look even if you are firmly in the modern age. If I had lots of spare cash I would be in here snapping it all up(ha snapping! geddit? ok sorry)
