It’s ok… Now i’ve done it i wouldn’t go again. They do have a lovely little aquarium with sting rays etc They have huge tanks which is nice to see usually they are quite small and you cannot help but feel sorry for the poor things. Not the case here. It is quite a small place but well layed out as you go up and down in a wave style to fit it all in. At £13 for an adult ticket… over priced. We were there 1.5 hours and we didn’t exactly rush around. It is a lovely thing to do if you have never been so as a special treat etc i’d suggest going. For me sadly i wouldnt go again.

It’s not terribly big, but what it does have it makes the most of. There was lots of diversity too. The highlights for me was the giant octopus and the tank that that had the bubble in the bottom that you could stick your head in(two separate things btw). The big tanks are pretty awesome too from the ground and from the top. One had a shark feeding and talk when we were passing by. A nice aquarium that surpassed our expectations.

Good marine life to see. Although film of 3D dolphins and whales was ruined by the projection if it’s not showing it in 3D properly and thus can give you a bit of a headache.

Okay, so when this opened at the end of 2009 I thought what a great idea to put an Aquarium in Bristol, and I was excited at something new to go along to and have a fun day out. The overall experience was good, but I felt they overcharged for what it was. An adult ticket is around £13, and it doesn’t take long to walk round — so it doesn’t really provide you with a day out, more like a couple of hours. Saying this, the design of the place was pretty cool, and they had a good range of sea life to keep your interest — in the centre there’s a big display with loads going on around the coral reef, which was pretty cool! The location is also good — located just near the waterfront, so there’s plenty of cool bars and restaurants to pop to before or after. Basically give it a go, but be aware that it’s not cheap — and the gift shop is also over priced.

I have recently set up a small tropical fish tank so when I found out about the Blue Reef Aquarium, near the Harbour Side, I thought I’d really like to go and see some big fish! Rumour is it cost 4 million pounds to develop the relatively new point on the Bristol to-do map, I guess that’s why the ticket prices feel slightly on the high side, it’ll take them a few years to clear £4 million! On the plus side, you really could spend hours here to get your moneys worth! The variety and just pure number of fishy friends is quite breath taking, even if your not usually impressed by fish it’s difficult not to become a little entrances by them. The 3D cinema was great, a really good idea. Perfect for a rainy Sunday afternoon…

Very expensive but surprisingly large once you are inside. There are some rare treats of an octopus and seahorses inside. The exhibits lack in labels particularly in the old butterfly walk area — often I found fish I wanted to know the name of and it wasn’t there. I’m sure it will find its feet and make these minor improvements as long as the prices don’t put the families off.

Blue Reef Aquarium is a brand new attraction(opening in November 2009) in Bristol. It is located near the centre of Bristol at the Harbour Side so really accessible by bus. It is, however a roughly 20 minute walk from Temple Meads Station, so if you are visiting Bristol for the day it might be worth researching bus timetables. Inside, the place is really plush and exciting! It brought be right back to being a kid again, seeing a huge aquarium for the first time! The layout is well designed, taking you slowly through the different tanks with different things to see in each aquarium. I especially liked the large underwater walk-through tunnel. The staff are lovely and really helpful. Once inside, there isn’t really any need to talk to any staff as there is more than enough information dotted around, meaning its a good education ploy for parents. Prices are a little expensive, with an adult ticket costing £13.50, and a child £9.20. They do take student discount. A ticket for the IMAX3D dolphin experience is also included in the price of your ticket, which is well worth it, and the kids will LOVE it!
