I visited Chosen Hill farm for the first time yesterday and really enjoyed it. The farm is in a beautiful location overlooking Chew Valley Lake. It found it was well signed from the main road picnic areas at the lake. At the farm, they grow a range of soft fruit and vegetables; at the time of writing, strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants, redcurrants and gooseberries are in season, with raspberries on the verge of being ready to pick. They also grow broad beans. If you ring their phone number, there is a recorded message that will tell you what is currently available. On arrival, I got a friendly welcome and explanation of what to do you either bring your own containers(which they need to weigh for you before you fill them) or they can supply punnets in various sizes for you to use. You then pick your fruit and veg, return to the till, and pay for the weight of produce that you pick. The bushes were dripping with an abundance of high quality fruit. It was very peaceful and relaxing to wander round plucking fruit off the bushes, accompanied only by a couple of fairly plump blackbirds who were making the most of the seasonal glut. When I had filled my basket and went to pay, I found you can also buy meringues to accompany your strawberries, and their own home produced honey. This was a lot more fun and a bit cheaper than buying soft fruit from the supermarket, and I have enjoyed making jams, fruit liqueurs and ice creams from my pickings. I’m definitely going to go back, and think this would also make a fun outing with family and friends. Highly reccommended. You can find more details on their website:
