On the road out of Bristol towards Weston, just part Backwell sits this quaint nursery-garden centre. We were passing it one day and popped in — the selection of herbs were outstanding for such and for someone who loves cooking as much as I do(i.e. a whole load more than I like gardening), that was bliss. Also the basil and coriander I bought didn’t die the minute I got them home(in fact they’re still thriving and flavouring stews and curries 3 months later). As well as shrubs, trees, compost, tools and a good selection of gardening books, they also sell some delightful garden decorations(not tat, quality). The rustic-looking windchimes were particularly appealing, handmade and less than a tenner — some great gifts for older relatives. Last stop — le café. A slab of chocolate cake and a decent cup of builder’s tea, served with a smile. For a tiny, independent garden centre this is perfection. Be prepared to fight an OAP for a table though(we didn’t do that obviously).
