Everywhere I’ve eaten and/or drank recently has been great. I’ve been on real culinary winning streak — until I went to Coffee #1. Number 1 it definitely isn’t! It actually looks really nice from the outside. It has a nice open front with a couple of tables outside. But unfortunately that’s where my compliments end. Walking in from a nice summers day, it instantly gets dark as you walk in. The combination of very low lighting and dark décor made it easy to forget what time of day it was. The décor itself is ok. A miss-mash of tables and chairs and a decorative bookcase make for an alright coffee shop experience. But you’d expect good coffee from a coffee shop experience. Not at Coffee #1. Bland, bitty and blatantly over priced, is what you get! The coffee menu is pretty uninspiring. Flat whites and lattes. Standard! Food wise it’s over priced cakes and sandwiches in plastic homes. Bought-in uniform cookies that look as depressed as the staff. All two of them! And to top it all off. After I had ordered my coffee and perfectly round welsh cake — no wifi! What? None? Not even The Cloud? Where am I right now? 1992? Should have gone to Porto Lounge!

This was a good addition to Fishponds, which needed a large coffee shop. The coffee is good, its spacious, nicely laid out and in the summer there is really good air conditioning. As with many coffee shop chains though, the food is disappointing, they do serve a selection of sandwiches, one variety of soup and cakes but nothing particularly appealing Its a great place to meet up for a coffee, but there are much better places to go and eat.

A recent addition to Keynsham’s bustling high street. Plenty of tables along with overstuffed leather armchairs and some antique-style decoration makes for a wholly pleasant atmosphere. Plenty of staff along with a friendly and efficient service. Expect queues, especially on weekends. A range of panini options and a seasonal drinks menu are worth exploring. Family friendly with a range of options for children, but also quite comfortable for the lone diner that wants nothing more than a sit down and a read of a good book with a mug of something tasty. On this particular occasion I chose the turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce panini with an accompanying mug of hot chocolate. The panini was generous in size and arrived at my table within five minutes. If I’m going to have to be picky I would say that the panini could have done with perhaps a couple more minutes in the grill and the outside was satisfyingly warm and crispy, but the inside was less so. The hot chocolate was rich and thick, and clearly of a good quality. Overall, it is difficult to identify any major faults with this particular branch of Coffee #1 and would certainly recommend this establishment to anyone finding themselves on Keynsham High Street and in need of refreshment.

Mmmm… how to mark this place? I didn’t like it but I liked it also. Generic coffee shop. Buzzing and very popular since it’s opened. Had the carrot cake and I really didn’t like it. Even left some. But I can see it’s a good place for Keynsham. Good space… lots of tables and has a nice atmosphere. Good place to meet friends. And for meetings.
