Effes Kebab House

Just next door to the arches on Gloucester Road, Effes is one of the more decent kebab houses in the area. I say more decent because they don’t have 20-​year-​old weathered photos of their food and they keep their joint cleaner than some of the other kebab houses in town.
Normally my final destination after a night out, the staff at Effes are always eager to please, chatty and interested in tales of what you’ve been up to that night, or at least that’s the impression I get after a few drinks.
The chips are good and not too costly, which is the main reason I come here. I’ve seen Effes open in the afternoon before which surprises me, as I can’t honestly see why anyone would frequent a kebab house when not under the influence but there you go. Effes stay open quite late and are open every night of the week. They’ve never tried to rip me off and the food always hits the spot.

As far as kebab-​houses go, Effes is slightly better than the rest. Sort of. That isn’t saying much though. My boyfriend was charged double, my friend got a free kebab for a kiss on the lips, and the men are all slightly pervy (there was porn on the tv). Apparently the kebabs are okay but i haven’t had one from here so i can’t comment. None of the meat looked good and the salad looked very brown. Their chips were nice and fat though, and you could have as much salt and vinegar as you wanted. I still wouldn’t come here sober.

Sadly not a by product of the beer of the same name, which came as quite a big dissapointment to my friend who ventured here in the hope of finding what he defined as ‘his idea of Mecca!’. However, although it does not house an over flowing supply of that precious beer, Effes Kebab House does offer up some rather tasty kebabs! I popped in here with my dissapointed friedn a few weeks ago and we were served up some very good Chicken Tikka Kebabs and some pretty good chips! If you find yourself in the area then pop on in, but don’t if your looking for beer!

One of the better fast food places to go to in the area. Effes benifits from not having any of those faded pictures of Pizza’s in it’s windows, and from haing a sign that is a little different to most kebab/​fast food places. It Think this also means that they have taken a little bit more care over the food, and it does taste nicer than some of the other place… cough… *#Bennys# cough.
Some good pizza offers means its good for house parties to get some food quickley on the go, as long as you have someone willing to do the fast food run (go and pick up the food!)
