Having spent many family holidays in Turkey it just so happens that this little gem is a few minutes walk from my flat, so it’s a fairly easy choice to make make when deciding where to eat on an early summer evening! There’s a sunny little terrace out front, with about 8 tables, and it gets a fair bit of sun. Inside it’s pretty authentic Turkish décor, open kitchen so you can see the chefs in action. Ezo is located on the busy Gloucester rd so if you want somewhere tranquil this probably isn’t the place for you. The food is great I would highly recommend the rolled chicken with feta and spinach, great flavours and cooked to perfection. My partner had the mixed grill which was also delicious this came with lamb, beef patties and grilled chicken with various vegetables, both mains came with rice. Meals are reasonably priced between £10−15 and there’s a big selection to chose from. They also do a lunch special, a choice of different wraps served with salad and fries this costs around £7 and in my opinion is an absolute bargain! Drinks are ‘ok’ good selection of spirits, and bottles of wine as well as a choice of a couple of draught beers and some bottled as well. One down side for me was that if you want to drink wine by the glass you have to drink the house wine, which wasn’t great to be honest. As I said before the food does take a while but it’s freshly prepared and cooked so the delay is forgiven. It’s a place to go to enjoy the atmosphere, company and watch the world go by, I’d highly recommend it and will be visiting again soon myself. Oh and one last don’t forget to ask for chilli sauce, it’s pretty yummy!

Sandwiched in an unfortunate position between a sun-tanning centre and a money shop, Ezo then goes on to do itself no favours by creating such an ugly exterior. Not only have they built a cheap-looking wall around their outdoor seating area at the front, but they also have a brash metal sign that would look more at home on a tacky bar than a cosy Turkish restaurant. Yet once you step inside, there’s a complete transformation — the design is more classically Turkish with warm lighting and colourful lanterns, the cooking smells are divine, and the staff are really friendly. What’s more, the tempting dishes on the menu are all that they promise to be — my grilled halloumi cheese starter was delicious, and the grilled sea bass with baby potatoes was cooked perfectly. I’d definitely say it’s worth getting past the ugliness on the outside to discover the warm ambience inside, as well as the fab cuisine at reasonable prices.

What’s not to love about this fantastic little Turkish eatery? Even as we were walking along Gloucester Road on the approach I was assaulted by the most delicious waft of charcoal-grilled meat– like the most heavenly barbecue smell you could ever imagine. And inside is like a gorgeous cosy boutique with authentic copper wall-markings, beautiful drapings and little mozaic table lanterns. Also if you sit in the right place you can see your meat being grilled on a beautiful charcoal grill. They do a fabulous range of hot and cold mezes from the more standard falafel and hummus to Albanian liver, Patlican Soslu(fried aubergines with tomato, peppers, onions and garlic) and Tarama which is cod’s roe, lemon juice and oil mousse. The main courses are really reasonably priced and the standard of the cuisine is high. I had an incredible moussaka where the balance of herbs was just right and the consistency of the bechemel sauce was spot on. But I’ve also tasted the charcoal chicken and the mixed grill which are cooked to perfection. Service is friendly and unobtrusive and there is a relaxed and intimate feel. It’s a sparkling jewel in the diamond-encrusted crown of Gloucester Road.

This is an amazing wonderful find on the Gloucester Rd! With so much choice in Bishopston — and a lot more popping up! — Ezo is a lovely restaurant with that something extra. The food is freshly cooked — right before your eyes! The wonderful smells fill the air and warmly fires your appetite. We have become regulars here, and would eagerly recommend to everyone. We have used just as a couple and also twice in a big group — whatever your seating is, you can easily be accommodated. I would recommend booking on the busier nights, and especially if you’re a large group.

From the outside, I mistakenly thought this would be some Amazon style restaurant. It is in fact Turkish… not quite sure who was behind the exterior design! I had never really tried authentic Turkish food before and I was pleasantly surprised. Prices aren’t half bad either, with a main dish(and rice or an alternative side) costing roughly £9. I thought the food was really good. Everything is made fresh to order and the ingredients appear to be of high quality. If you are able to splash the cash try the Seabass… its amazing but much more expensive.

From the outside you could be mistaken for thinking this place looks a little bit rubbish. Personally, I think that has something more to do with traditional Turkish tastes in exterior street design and bares no reflection on the quality of the food served. The interior of the restaurant strikes a welcome contrast to the exterior as it adorned in sumptuous Turkish art work and classical touches of Asia. The food complements this setting well, as it is also pretty good and a marked improvement to what you might find in other Turkish establishments posing themselves as Kebab houses around the city. The prices are quite reasonable and with the option of a curb side seating area, this place is great in the summer. Not the greatest Turkish restaurant you’ll find in the whole world, but if you’re thinking it looks awful based on it’s naff exterior, you’ll be surprised.
