Gardiner Haskins Homecentre

Problem sorted with commendable attention to a sole customer complaint. I don’t know why Unilocal has 2 places to place reviews but I hope I’ve now updated twice!

Gardiner Haskins is brilliant! An old established family firm. A rare gem in the whole country and a huge asset to Bristol. As others have said, it is huge, and you can get literally anything here for your home, from a few screws, DIY, to whole bathrooms and kitchens, living rooms, lighting, garden — even a good range of bicycles. Their range of products is quite simply amazing, and because they are independent if they haven’t got it they will get it for you. They have a huge range of catalogues too. They are not the cheapest, but neither are they expensive. Walking into the shop is like entering a time warp — an old fashioned department store the likes of which don’t exist anywhere else any more. You get very helpful personal service and can have your whole kitchen designed if you want. Almost all the staff are extremely knowledgeable too. It feels spacious and almost always seems empty! — yet they do tremendous business. They also have a huge car park. A vastly undervalued and under appreciated local department store. Just walking round is an experience — simply wonderful!

This is a hard review to write because on the one hand they sell everything you could possibly ever need but on the other hand they seem have the same stock as they did in 1984! You walk into the modern living section to find a lot of beige and pink floral sofas that even my Nan would consider old fashioned, mixed in with some real high end modern furniture and homeware.
I’m pretty sure the staff have worked in there since it opened too, which means they’re very knowledgable and helpful but they’ve also had their free bus pass for a while so don’t expect anything to happen that fast!
It’s absolutely massive and you can literally find anything on one of the five floors; there’s even a café with hot and cold food and drinks for a rest half way round.
It’s a very strange but great experience all round that no review could really sum up — you need to see this for yourself. I can confidently say there’s something for everyone in there though.

Really like the variety in this place and their garden centre is well maintained, seeming to have better choice of things like fencing than other more well-​known home stores. They seem to have an enormous range of everything from beers, wines and spirits, to kichen equipment, bathrooms, electrical items and bicycles! The staff have all been very helpful and polite. Bit of a treasure trove really. They only fall down on the website, which doesn’t seem to be updated very often, if at all.

I like Gardner Haskin, at least you can see lots of items on show and the prices are good. I bought a bathroom and shower that was £200 cheaper than the web and a washing machine that was cheaper.
They were good on fitting it as well, local plumber who was tidy and turned up when they said. Good saleslady on Bathrooms, good technically and no bs. or pushyness.
Wallpaper and plants were good here too.
Its a shame its old buildings, but you get used to it after a few visits and find your way around. Didn’t like the piped music, but thats just me.

Gardinier Haskins delivery service is appalling! I bought a washing machine and during the delivery they ripped up my brand new floor. The men then left sharpish without even uttering an apology. I wrote to complain as you can’t get hold of management on the phone and they have written back saying it was up to me to protect the floor. However, the floor didn’t stand a chance the way they were dragging the machine around. We had moved out our old one with no problems at all. Totally uncaring, unresponsive attitude. Thumbs down! I like to see wht John ewis would have said, I’ll be going there next time!

I found that Gardiner Haskins was over priced for the quality of goods that they sold, although i found the staff to be very helpfull they did not seem to me to be very content in their jobs. Management were scarcely to be found when needed by myself and seemed to shy away from responsibilities when dealing with customer complaints. The store looked run down and dated and in need of a make over. Overall i was not impressed with the whole experience, i shall not be going there again !!
