I love that you can walk into this secure field by hopping over an traditional stone stile(my dog gets very excited walking up to it and leaps over with glee). Find it off Manor Road on the right as you head toward the hospital from Fishponds. The field itself is just a big square but being secure is good to let dogs off for a run. It can be quiet when nearby Vassell’s Park is busy so I like coming here with my dog. From here you can walk by the allotments and down into Snuff Mills on the left or Vassell’s Park on the right. Or you can take the exit the other side of the allotments into the beautiful Grove Wood. The site was recently bought by HCA and their plans for the site are still under debate. They had recently put up ‘private land’ signs — this seemed unfriendly but they reported that it was merely to stop any liability if anyone hurt themselves on the field. They have now been replaced by the official yellow arrows of ‘public walkway’ so please don’t stop coming here if you do. Follow the local Action Group’s blog to keep up to date with the progression of this site which will come to a head in July 2010.
