There aren’t many food shops open in and around Bristol at gone 5pm on a Sunday — but this local farm shop is alive and kicking and they’ve got plenty of their own fresh produce on sale. Everything you need for a Sunday roast in fact. I spent £10 and got a huge piece of pork, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, chillis and 6 free range eggs and a pint of milk from their cows. Not bad! Only really accessible from Bristol by car, when you arrive you’re greeted by a friendly old sheep dog and several honking geese, evidence that yes, this is a fully working and very traditional farm. The buildings are rustic stone, there’s mud in the yard and horses and cows in the fields. Lovely — and you won’t see that at your local supermarket. The cheese counter is especially well stocked and there are plenty of homemade chutneys and pickles to go with it. Tempting treats include cakes and organic crisps and chocs. The staff are more than happy to help you find what you want, even late on a Sunday. A genuinely lovely place to buy your groceries.
