Not cheap this St Peter’s Hospice but I have found some gems in here, including a floaty fun 1960s nighty and dressing gown and a brilliant band jacket, perfect for dressing up. I also found a really good swing dress in here, I’ve been complimented on it lots, it was from Next and a bit pricey given that it was high street in the first place but it was the type of thing I knew I would get lots of wear out of and would regret if I didn’t buy it. Not so fantastic for regular clothes but keep your eyes peeled for some interesting fancy dress items.

I love Cotham Hill for several reasons. The first is that there used to be the most amazing cake shop here, the second is the lovely little cafes selling delicious coffee and the third is the vast amount of charity shops on this small stretch of road. The St Peters Hospice shop may not be the largest or have the best presentation but there are some great bargains to be had, particularly if you like bric-à-brac — and lets be honest, who doesn’t? Obviously this charity shop sells clothes too and as a popular area for Bristol University students, there are plenty of fancy dress options in here. As a result the prices are a little more than you might pay in other areas of Bristol but its all for a good cause!

I don’t know about you but when I go to charity shops I expect things to be cheaper than the High Street. Perhaps I’m just tight, after all it is all for charity. When I lived in Cotham my Saturday mornings always consisted of a little bunny hop(not literally) around the local charity shops — and there sure are enough of them. I have to say, that after a couple of visits, I used to bypass this place. I’ve never been a massive sucker to fashion so perhaps that that is why I’m not a big fan of this place. It is full of mainly womens clothes which strike me as being very fashionable, but with this comes a mark up which makes shopping in Primark way cheaper. Expect to see loads of Pixie Lott type students in their racking up their next twee outfit so if that’s your thing then it’s probably a good charity shop for you, it’s just not my bag.

St Peters Hospice charity shops are doing so well in both in general and in this part of town that they’ve got two on Cotham Hill within very close walking distance of each other; one for him and one for her. This is the one for her and a very good one at that. The archetypal charity shop is this one, an ideal venue to source some really cool and chic bits of retro gear. The shelves are stacked and the hangers are bulging full as hoards of young students trawl the treasures. There are a couple of books and videos and such like, but it’s mostly ladies fashion fashion fashion.

St Peter’s Hospice Shops raise money for Bristol’s only adult hospice which cares for local people with incurable diseases. It could be because Bristolian’s feel so passionate about this charity and the work that they do that their shops are so positive and a pleasure to visit. It’s obvious too see how much locals care by the quality and abundance of the donations they give. For those of you who hold the charity dear to your heart — you’re in luck because there’s four(that’s right — FOUR!) St Peter’s shops in Clifton Village. What I like about these chain of shops, is that if you’re looking for something specific, they’ll call around to the other shops to see if they’ve got it in stock! This particular branch on Cotham Hill is the best of the four for bric-à-brac and homeware.
