The bright décor and spacious would be nice for coffee and cake and a light lunch. But the menu didn’t seem to recognize it was rainy and cool outside. We visited on Sat 2.30pm for late lunch. The menu was not special enough to stay to eat. Wraps, salad, sandwiches. They were out of the soup and steak frite but even that wasn’t too appealing.

A lovely café here on glos road. All food is made fresh on the premises and they have a food store! Unfortunately Costa is next door witch they must be well annoyed with! Reasonably priced and a wide range of food this place is lovely!

This place used to be my favourite tea room on Gloucester road, however I visited about six months ago and I felt it had lost it’s charm but decided to give it another go today so took a work colleague there for a coffee/meeting. This place first opened about 4 or 5 years ago it was owned and run by a mum & daughter, this place was way better then anywhere else on Gloucester rd, the menu was great, the décor was clean, crisp Parisian chic and had really touch of glamour. Some of the décor is looking a bit tired now, everything from the walls to menu could do with a bit spruce up. I understand it’s the chef has now bought it, from seeing(we didn’t eat today) the food today it looked much to the same standard as before, which was always excellent. The usual menu is savoury tarts served with salads, which is around £8 and pretty good value for money. They then have a breakfast menu, it’s much fancier than your usual breakfast menu and I always go for the Welsh rarebit with an extra sausage! The service was good, orders taken and drinks delivered quickly although we weren’t approached again in the two hours we were there. The tea and coffee were both pretty good quality and for the two the bill came to £4.50. The cake counter looks incredible, it was tough but I managed to avoid having a slice or two, and for no other reason than I have a wedding dress to get in to. They used to have a high end deli counter with lots of fancy treats, anything from biscuits and pasta to fancy drinks, this is looking a bit drab now and was mainly filled with bottles of wine and bubbles. I’m giving this 4stars as I still think Tart has a lot to give, a lick of paint could do wonders! This is still way beyond your average café, so would definitely recommend a visit I just hope it can return to its former glory!

I had heard great things about this cute café so took some friends here from some afternoon tea and cake… sadly we were rather disappointed. There were four of us, three ordered Classic Cream tea and one ordered a slice of cake. We waited an age and then two teas came out, no sign of the third or the slice of cake. After chasing up the rest of our order we had to wait another age for the last tea and was then told the cake slice was no longer available and so had to pick something else so not a great food experience! To be fair the waitress was really apologetic and took some items off our bill but still not sure if I would go back. *advice to the café would be make sure theres one waitress serving the table, we had three different ones and think this is where the confusion happened!*

Tart is a nice place for breakfast, with small-to-medium portion sizes but excellent flavours. The cake look amazing, but we haven’t tried it yet. The only bad point is that it opens at 10am on Sunday, but you can start with coffee at Costa next door, which opens earlier.

This is a pretty café with nice staff and plenty of outdoor seating. They carry a large range of Luscombe drinks that all looked really appealing. I tried the hot ginger beer which definitely had a fair spicy kick to it! I had a tart(rocket, parmesan and cherry tomato) with 3 salads. The tart was small and had a slightly odd taste, which maybe wasn’t that surprising given the ingredients. The 3 salads were pretty good — an interesting beetroot/hazelnut combo and some really good couscous — clearly where I(/places I’m buying it) have been going wrong before is not enough salt/butter. When I went to pay it was £10.20 for the tart plus the bottle of ginger beer — that seemed quite a lot. Maybe not? I feel like a lunch like that should be under £10. Cakes looked good; I’m already regretting not trying the brownie. They have some other stuff on the menu — my friend had perfectly cooked boiled eggs with soldiers made out of some really delicious looking toast.

Had afternoon tea at Tart the other day and were a bit disappointed. The cakes were good and tasty, but we didn’t like their sandwiches at all. It’s a shame that their bread seems nice and crusty, but tastes and feels industrial. As for the tea, I had green and it was bitter and not veryfresh. The place is very cosy and it’s not pricey at all, and the service was good though, so we might go back after all.

Went here for the first time yesterday(07.09.10) and loved it! Had a rocket, field mushroom and parmesan tart and it was deeelish! Not the cheapest of eateries but more than makes up for it in flavour and chilled atmosphere! They also sell other products like jams, pickles, fudge etc some made in store, will defo be purchasing some for Christmas prezzies!

This café certainly makes me stop and want to stare through the window at the cakes, like Charlie staring through the gates at the chocolate factory. They make lovely, oh-so-pretty cakes with décor that is so feminine and delicate that it makes you feel like you’re in France. Think high tea; scones, small sandwiches on pretty trays and cups of tea in nice china. I would envision coming here to catch up with the girlies, or to have something to eat here with my mother, mid-shopping trip. They sell bits to takeaway for gifts(or for yourself) which would make any recipient happy. I’d say that this was a café that is perfect for young mothers and posh girlies, and not so my kind of scene, but that doesn’t draw from the fact that it is a very lovely place indeed.

A stylish, chic little café and cake shop, Tart is one of the prettiest places to stop for a coffee while shopping on Gloucester Road. With its delicate blue décor, coy name and French-style tables and chairs, the place has a distinct sense of humour about itself. But, the cake on offer here is certainly no joke. Huge, gorgeous cakes sit on cake stands on the counter as you go in, and the sight of them is enough to make you forget you only came in for a cappuccino. This is definitely, as other reviewers have pointed out, the place for yummy mummies to come for their morning coffee and a cake-based treat. It’s not the calmest of cafes; there’s lots of activity with people coming in to buy cakes and pastries(and other things besides — they even do a range of jams and chutneys), and somehow it feels slightly flustered. So, I wouldn’t recommend it as a good place to come for a quiet sit down with a newspaper. It’s more the sort of place you should come with a friend or two to gush loudly over the cakes. Also bear Tart in mind if you’re looking for a cake for a special occasion: they have a cake ordering service and will make anything your heart desires.

When Tart first opened I expected such great things. It’s basically cake porn, with all the different gateaux, muffins and biscuits winking at you seductively through the window. And from the outside it looks really attractive and well-presented with some tables al fresco. But when I went there for a lazy Saturday brunch I was disappointed at the atmosphere inside. It’s a bit twee with some very over-priced items on sale and the cakes were if anything a bit dry. They have also crammed in a few too many tables so you feel as if you are constantly eavesdropping on other people’s conversations. The savoury namesake tarts were a little better but not the showstopping selection you would expect from somewhere which has taken this name. They do do really decadent afternoon teas so it is a great place to bring older relatives or just people who love scones. But if I were writing a school report for this place it would read«Could do better.»

This café is a little coffee and cake shop, with a slightly more civilised feel! It’s recently been redecorated and looks very slick inside, and as soon as you enter the staff are very welcoming and friendly, and they take you to your seat — unlike other coffee shops where you find your own way. Everything is well presented — including the cakes and fancies which a beautifully decorated! I had the carrot cake on my last visit, and it was amazing! I have also been here with a friend for afternoon tea, and for £5.50 you get a fairly large pot of real tea(yes with tea leaves!) and warm scones with fresh clotted cream, which was delicious! At the till point they also have a selection of other sweet treats which are beautifully made. Although slightly more expensive than others, this little café is definitely worth a visit and is one of the more upmarket coffee shops on Gloucester road. You can even order champagne and strawberries if you fancy really treating yourself!

Despite the cheeky name, Tart is probably the most civilsed venue on Gloucester Road. It’s often favoured by yummy mummys(a bohemian counterpart to Clifton’s Boston Tea Party where the same groupings seem regularly to take place) gathering over tea and cake to wait in turn for an opportunity to discuss their little one. The cake is pretty delicious though so even if it appeals to all the worst female stereotypes to settle down for ‘something naughty’, it’s still worth it. The portions are fairly slender but the recipes are so rich it doesn’t matter. There’s also savoury food which I’ve yet to try but with the effort they put into their baked goods I have no doubt it reaches a high standard as well. A serene atmosphere predominates, making it a good place in which to take five before missioning up the rest of Gloucester Road. There’s(competitive in good weather) outdoor seating as well, and the café forms part of a series of terraces — a pleasant set– up which is regrettably all too rarely seen in the UK.

Cakes, cakes, and more cakes. Yes, Tart is all about the cakes. Come here for a cup of tea and sample one of their awesomely delicious cakes, and an afternoon will generally be nicely set up. The café has been here for about a year or so, and has a nice interior with the cake counter on one side and two levels of seating. I’ve sat outside each time I’ve been here though, as it seems to be the done thing along this stretch of Gloucester road, along with the blue lagoon and the promenade. They’ve got a good range of cakes to choose from — last time I took the platter, which gave a small sample of 3 or 4 different ones from the shop, and at around £6 it was pretty good value. Single cakes, though, will set you back more like 3 or 4. Having bigged up the cakes, they also do a full menu of breakfasts and lunch items, such as sandwiches at around a fiver, and a full English at around £6. All in all, a good café in a vibrant part of town.

This is a cross between a tea room and a café, with full meals served too. Either before or after lunch you can relax with a cup of something warm and watch Gloucester Road rush past as you listen to some jazz. If you get one of their pastries then things are just that little better. You wont get the cheapest cup of tea here — they’ve got a champagne one for fifteen pounds — but it’s certainly worth paying a little over the odds to be in such calm surroundings. They’ve got an extensive range of lunch or breakfast options as well. The fried breakfast, at £6.50, is a little expensive. Whilst it is a bit better than you’ll get at Gloucester Road’s various greasy spoon, this isn’t a dish that needs to much attention. Apart from that you’ll get decent value for your money. Special care, as the name suggests, is taken with the tarts, with pastry to die for. A bit of class on Gloucester Road either for food or a cup of tea, but not somewhere you have to pay over the odds.

A sweet treat where you can take a break from shopping your socks off on Gloucester Road, a vintage-styled tea room with cream teas and deep cakes of deliciousness. On weekday mornings you will be tripping over the yummy mummies picking at their salads but at the weekend it oozes a coolness as groups of friends while away the weekend starting with their stylish full english breakfasts. The café also has a mini-deli to buy high-end products including my favourite Artisan Biscuits.

Great neat café, really cosy parts in the back with sofa chairs. Food a bit pricey but great tasty home made cakes. Possibility to sit outside when sunny.
