This was the first time visiting a Coffee 2 café having heard good things about them in the local press. Having had a wander around and a mooch in Warstones to feed my friend’s book habit we thought we would pop in and get a coffee. The shop is minimally decorated but had the standard warm yellowy colour to the walls that I guess is meant to assist in the immersive coffee drinking experience but I find bland. The coffee was a bit bitter and the service was a bit slow. They advertised Honeybuns but I couldn’t find any of their tasty goodness as i was hoping to find something yummy in a Gluten free variety. For all you non-coeliacs they had a cake of the day offer with a purchase of any hot drink and it looked amazing. A large slab of home made Victoria Sponge would have been just the ticket if i could have eaten it. It’s ok but don’t expect it to feel like a treat unless you can eat the cake.

Whilst nipping into Bromsgrove a few weeks back I’d stopped in Waterstones and picked up the last in the Hunger Games trilogy and was desperate to start reading it. Thinking I’d sink into a chair in Starbucks or Costa — I spotted Coffee 2 a few doors down and decided to take a chance on a smaller independent coffee place. Great choice! It was not very busy at all, so I managed to get a large latte and hide myself away in the back of the shop where I rapidly read through the first 3 chapters without interruption.(It’s really very nailbiting by this point!) The latte was creamy and had an artistic swirl in the foam — at least it did before I stirred it to try to cool it down more rapidly. I also enjoyed a large slice of Victoria Sponge — their cake of the day which was on offer when purchased with my drink. You don’t get things like that in Starbucks! Yum!
