Rating des Ortes: 5 Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom
We have stayed at the Ashbourne twice now as a base for visiting family in Burnham. Having used different rooms we found them both to be comfortable, well decorated and spotlessly clean in a friendly welcoming home. Breakfast freshly prepared with a good variety of choice is served in a bright well laid out dining area. You can use the large conservatory for take away food as well. Set in award winning gardens meticulously maintained by the owners«I obtained an Acunthus potted up by Colin after I’d enquired about this plant», this is a large and well maintained guest house. We most definitely will be returning and have no hesitation in recommending the Ashbourne to all. Patrick and Adrian

I feel it necessary to email you about the disappointing, poor quality service that myself and my fiancé received at Ashbourne House, 17 Berrow Road, Burnham-on-Sea. TA82EY01278783217. My fiancé had taken me away for my birthday on Monday 8th March 2010 and we had travelled around staying at three locations, Cleve Spa in Wellington, Ashbourne House in Burnham-on-Sea and Meare Manor in Glastonbury, so we could see different areas of Somerset and enjoy the experience fully. The first and last places were lovely and we were treated brilliantly, with the staff being friendly and helpful. On the Tuesday 9th March 2010 we arrived at 3.30pm at Ashbourne House, imagine my surprise by the un-friendly woman who was displeased with us as we had stated that we would arrive at 4pm and were 30 minutes early! She made us feel like she was going out of her way to show us around because we were early! Not only that but when we entered the room we were staying in we were met by a freezing cold room, the heating had clearly not been on for days. The gentleman introduced himself as Colin Jones.(The unfriendly woman’s husband, I’m guessing, as she did not introduce herself to us at all.) He stated to us that during this time of year they do not get a lot of people staying during the week and had not put the heating on yet, I would think that as they knew we were arriving at 4pm that they would have already put the heating on in anticipation of our arrival, however this had not happened! It got to 5.30pm and even though the heating had been on for 2 hours, it was still freezing in our room, my fiancé had a thermometer on his iphone and measured it as approximately 10 degrees, which was an increase of only 3 degrees from the outside which was measured on our car as 7 degrees! I was disgusted at this and we expressed to Colin that it was still freezing in our room and could they please turn the heating up. Not only was there no apology but the heating did not increase and we felt as though they were stating to us that they had turned it up but actually it seemed like that was not the case. I decided to have a shower as I thought this might help me warm up and also we were going out for dinner so I needed to wash my hair. The water was luke-warm and even when I turned it up on full heat it still did not get any hotter, in fact it keep getting freezing cold and then going to luke-warm and then freezing again! I told my fiancé and he told me to get out the shower and he got Colin. When he came in the room he realised how cold the water was and even took my fiancé next door to test another shower which was boiling hot. He fiddled with the shower and then informed us that he did not think it would get any hotter as the time of year meant no one else had been staying in that room and did not help circulate the hot water! He said that we could use the shower next door if we wanted, as I was freezing cold and soaking wet I said I would rather have a shower in the room we were paying for and that I did not want to walk in and out of other rooms! He did not apologise once about the cold water, he did not offer us another room, even though no-one else was staying there as he had told us that previously, and all he did was moan that he was wet after playing with the shower as it had splashed him! We told him we were not happy with the service at all so far, he replied with we could use the other shower if we wanted. After he left I finished my cold shower and my fiancé decided to have a shower next door as it was a lot hotter and he did not want a cold shower in the freezing room we were in! After 5 minutes in the shower next door the water went to luke-warm, the same as in the room we were staying in! He was very upset by this as he had had to go to another room to wash and even then it was still not adequate temperature. After this we got dressed and two freezing cold people left to have dinner. I turned everything off in the room, including lights, television and my hair curlers, I am an energy efficient person and even at home I always make sure everything is off. As we were leaving we bumped into Colin and expressed our disappointment so far with our stay with them, we also told him of the shower going cold in the other room that my fiancé went in to shower. He laughed and told us that his wife had accidently started doing the washing up and that was probably why it went cold.(She was well aware of the fact that we were having showers and that they were cold so why did she start washing up??) He also asked us and I quote, «Not to hold it against them», as normally the heating and water was fine. Once again there was no apology and we left for dinner feeling disappointed and wondering what sort of establishment they are running as the customer service was appalling. When we returned at 9pm after dinner, we entered the house and walked straight up to our room not seeing anyone about. When we entered the room it was still freezing
