‘The Leaping Hare’ should advertise as ‘do we care’. Two years ago I would have given this place a rating of 5, however sadly for us in the area, it has gone down hill some what over the period. We went at dinner time and the place was not heaving, but you would have thought it was packed to the gills, if the service was anything to go by. Our 3 course meal was a long experience, but at the end of the day the food was still ok bordering mediocre, but one feels that the owners are relying /trading on its name, rather than offering outstanding food as they use to do. Thankfully they have now, for some time, added wines, other than their own produced, so called vintages to the wine list, although you are some what leaned upon, to try their stuff! Be warned! I have suffered too many hangovers from making that mistake, with the sulphur they add, to make it palatable, especially after having that one extra glass of house wine of theirs, after polishing of a good bottle of French together.(I don’t care what any of you say, but would some one show me an English wine, which I can enjoy, as one would an average new world wine! I have yet to discover it have you? if so let me know.) To sum it up: Do try it, as there is not allot of other dining of this type in the area, and the atmosphere is nice and homely, but take note: I hear here are some good restaurants in Bury, which should start to give this one a run for its money. So come on Lady C, shift up a gear! and give us our moneys worth.
