The store on the whole is very good with one major downfall. The restaurant/café smells quite awful when you first walk in. Me and my friend went there for a coffee 2 days ago and the smell was horrific. The only thing I can say it smells like is hot melted goats cheese. The coffee is nice.

Really to comment on the Debenhams café on the top floor which is really child friendly and seems always geared up to welcome you with your noisy accomplices. food is always nice — great healthy, inviting options for children and whenever I have visited a member of staff has always offered to help whether with carrying something to moving a highchair — changing facilities are excellent and I feel grateful as baby changing /feeding stations are becoming fewer in major towns /cities.

For a large store it is quite easy to find your way around although some parts are beginning to look a bit tired. Staff I find are friendly and helpful and seem to go a little bit extra if you want something in particular. The café is nice and seem to do reasonable food and cater well for young children which is always a bonus when on a long shopping trip. I have always found some good bargains and their sales are well worth going to if you get a chance. All in all not too bad a department store just could do with a bit of smartening up.

A large store that is in real need of being refurbshed as everytime I go in there It’s like stepping back in time. Tired looking, dark and in some deparments quite pokey. I used to love coming here when I was a little girl in the late 70’s as it had the best santas grotto but those days are long gone and it’s a bit disheartening to see the same coloured paintwork as they had back then. It’s a bit scary to see some of the girls on the make up counter too as some of them if they moved too quick I’m sure the face make up would take a few seconds to catch up.

I hate disagreeing with other reviewers — but that’s what this is all about, I guess! Debenhams seem to need to move their concessions around quite often without telling anyone. I used to enjoy shopping there, but now I find it a bit of a chore to find what i’m looking for. The staff will often walk past you, even if you are looking dazed and confused. There are some fab bargains to be had here too — but you might spend half a day looking for them! They also have a wedding department, if you want to make or buy from a gift list. They are quite helpful if you can’t find an item on a list too. Sadly their clearance department is rarely open now — which is a shame, as that was the best jumble sale in the City and I always found great bargains!

This store is large, well stocked, conveniently located and well maintained. The staff are always helpful and it’s easy to find your way around. They stock a wide range of products, from clothing and make-up to toys and homeware. The café is good, too. Look out for their Blue Cross Sales!
