The staff at Katsouris sure know how to fill an empty stomach. Reasonably priced around the £3-£4 mark for either a cold ready made sandwich or a hot fresh one if you don’t mind a small wait. Tends to be very busy on Wednesday & Friday(Bury Market days). Guaranteed to have you asleep at your desk in a food coma within an hour of consumption

This place does a really good sandwich! The quality of all their products is so good. I had a New York Deli sandwich and it was just brilliant. I have been to Katsouris a few times and it’s always great. The staff are really fast, pleasant and helpful.

Value-for-money and cheerful global deli AND greasy spoon There are several caffs in Bury Market but Katsouri’s(the original) is the only one where you can get your world deli selection alongside an all day breakfast. The perfect place to sit and watch the life of a medium-sized town as you chomp down a Big Kat breakfast or one of their latest specials, a spicy German hot dog. Teas and coffees are good but not what your coming here for: get your gnashers around your pick of their extensive hot menu. You won’t be disappointed.

only 3 stars as it badly needs to catch up with the deansgate branch. i find the snappy staff the biggest problem here. i know it gets busy but please don’t snap at customers who are choosing to eat and drink here. all in all the food is yum and fresh orange a treat. love the new stall and extension. the best meal is risotto with spicy ‘huge’ sausage n salad.

I had a «New York» Deli Sandwich and tried a Roast Pork with Apple Sauce too. I washed it all down with some(almost) fresh Orange Juice. As it was«Market Day»(Wednesday, Friday & Saturday) the place was jamming, but, service was brisk and turnaround quick if you ordered a cold dish, or, sandwich(longer if you wanted something hot). The quality met the need to fill a gap, but was nothing spectacular.

Thank you to Sophie C for pointing out this Bury branch of Katsouris was here first, before the Deansgate branch — something that could easily be overlooked with the number of reviews for the Manchester City Centre branch. When I arrived here at noon on a market day during the week, the place was jumping! Not to worry, as I then fitted in a tour of the Bury Markets before returning to Katsouris for a late lunch. I really like this place. As in, if I were to put together the market of my dreams, there would likely be room for a Katsouris on the periphery — whereas there is not really much from the rest of Bury Market that would make the cut.(OK, maybe a few places, but some serious cherry-picking would have to be done by me!) Katsouris Bury is a little bit stylish but not intimidating in the least. Staff are mainly young — as in 20s and 30s — and the service has a brisk and professional feel to it although still with a smile on the face! There is a separate deli counter to go and a café serving similar food to the Deansgate branch — three soups of the day(with probably two vegetarian choices) filled hot or cold ciabatta, an informal carvery and Barbakan baked good such as pastries, mince pies and cheesecake for dessert. No sign of the self-service mezze station which features at the Deansgate branch, though. Until I receive local insider knowledge to the contrary, I am writing Bury of as a bit of a no-go area for vegetarians on any sort of healthy diet, although nearby Whitefield does look more promising. Whereas the vegetarian choice at Katsouris is more than enough. I enjoyed a lunch of a decent-sized bowl of carrot and coriander soup with Barbakan bread(under £3 to sit in), half a Zorba the Greek toasted ciabatta(filled with halloumi and homemade tapenade) and an apple danish. In this, I feel I have identified my ideal meal combo from Katsouris, but rotating the soup and dessert choices to keep it interesting — I’ve yet to try the Barbakan Polish cheescake, for example. The outdoor seating area is huge, whereas seating and space indoors is limited and mainly at wall counters, which could prove problematic on days when sitting outside is not an option. For the adventurous vegetarian, there are definitely plenty of culinary diamonds in the rough to be found in Bury Market, if you have the appetite for the hunt. But Katsouris is far and away your safest bet if you are in a hurry!

Decent food and coffee, however it must be said that the staff are a surly bunch, I have been going in for a few years now but am treated as if I have never been in before. A mate of mine got a hair in his sandwich(he hadn’t ordered it) and when he confronted the owner George(who is always shouting at the staff) he said«what can I do, they wont wear hair nets» !!. Like I said though the food is good and his ‘Little kitten’ breakfast was outstanding value, until he put the price up by making the free coffee that came with it not free!!!

A good place for lunch. They do awesome specials including steak ciabattas and chicken sizzlers. Plus a fantastic range of coffees, teas and cold drinks. They also do a good range of pastries & cakes. Sometimes there can be a bit of a wait as busy periods however you can take you ticket and sip on your drink while you wait.

Delightful café in the Market Square of Bury, Katsouris is perfectly placed to catch shoppers and browsers when they are getting a bit tired of all that walking and feeling a bit, yes just a bit peckish. It is family run, decades old and something of a local institution(despite the fact that their success has lead them to open a deli in the centre of Manchester). This deli is also slightly more stylish than, lets be honest, most of its surroundings but the exterior compliments the oval shaped Fish and Meat Hall of the market very well. Come here for how-do-they-manage-to-do-it priced bagels, breakfasts or their famous meze. Who could turn down a platter including griled halloumi, stuffed vine leaves, greek salad and cous cous? Mmm I’m thinking about that concoction too much now. Why is there none of the above in my house RIGHTNOW?

A great shop. They sell cooked meats, sauces, bread, jams, olives and cheeses. However what makes this SO special is the sandwiches and coffee they sell. There are a couple of tables outside and some high seats in the shop itself(they look out into the square-fantastic for people watching or for just watching the world go by). They do a roasted veg and cheese ciabiatta-fantastic. They also have other breads and rolls. They have loads of different fillings(all really good) the bread is supplied by the fantastic Babakan This shop is excellent and well worth a visit.
