St James Restaurant Bushey

Had arranged for a private group of 30 people in the back room and the manager/​owner were quite accommodating. The group was well taken care of during pre dinner cocktails and during the meal service itself. The back of the restaurant is partitioned off and a great location for a group meal. It has a private bar, and you can also step out back to a small patio to get some fresh air. We had a special menu that included a choice of starter (both the goat cheese salad and lamb filo were big hits), a main (haddock on a bed of sliced green beans with a mustard sauce was so very tasty as well as the sea bass, sirloin and chicken options). Dessert favorites included crème brûlée and ice cream. The food was nourishing and delicious. Not terribly inventive, but not same old same old. The servers were all attentive keeping everyone’s glasses full and enduring meal orders were accurate. Definitely one of the best options when dining out of London to the north.

Supposed to be the best restaurant in the area. We thought the food was average and it seems to be living on past reputations. For the money we rate the Alpine more highly.

Excellent value for money in these times. Great private diner area at the back for parties, families etc.

This is the second time in 4 years I’ve eaten at St James and the restaurant has to be congratulated for creating a fantastic dining experience.
The customer service is superb and the whole team should be congratulated. We were made to feel welcome without it ever being over the top or intrusive. The food was excellent — all 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed the meals we choose.
The menus is varied enough to make things interesting (plenty of fish choices) and the wine menu extensive.
