It’s hard to rate a service station — either it works or it doesn’t, and this is your typical large Shell station in the small ‘Cambridge Services’ on the A14 at Boxworth. It worked for me — particularly as I didn’t fancy running out of petrol on the hellish A14 road, which must qualify as one of the least pleasant in the UK, thanks to the endless stream of heavy lorries travelling its unpleasantly narrow lanes, going from Harwich and Felixstowe to the Midlands and North of England. Still, stopping here was a few minutes of welcome respite, and meant I made it to my destination without incident. It has a shop selling newspapers, magazines, a few motoring items and a small range of snacks and drinks. Efficient staff, too.
