This place is definitely off the beaten path and a local gem. Well I have only visited this pub twice I know it is great. Both visits have been wonderful and my friend who lives up the street raves about it. It is true that there are more then a few fine pubs in Cambridge but The Geldard is definitely one of the best. There selection of beers is great and they have a very good menu including seasonal game dishes along side pub favorites. I want to go back most to just try other dishes. Pub food can be very good when done right and that is the case here. What I’ve tried was perfect & tasty and everything I saw looked great. They also have live music a few nights each month. I wish it was more as we were last there on the alternate Thursday they weren’t performing. But even without live music the place is still very hip with it’s music décor & outdoor patio.

The Geldart is a gem. I was pleased with the service, beer, food, atmosphere. A great all around package.

I love the Geldart and I visited several times on my last trip to Cambridge. If you are searching for the perfect spot to try exotic meat on a hot rock, search no more, the Geldart delivers. They generally have kangaroo and crocodile in stock, but the also have a revolving selection of other meats that includes springbok, blesbok, wildebeast, etc. They also have a great selection of ales on tap and a huge wine list. They also have outdoor seating for when the weather is nice. This is one of the best pubs that I visited for food and I will be returning on my next trip to the UK.

We went in for a drink on New Year and were treated with disdain by the staff, who seemed annoyed we weren’t buying food too. We were told we were in the way, and the manager was heard asking the staff who we were, presumably because we hadn’t prebooked a table. If they want an exclusive NYE then I would suggest they sell tickets. I have never been made to feel so unwelcome in a pub.

A good selection of real ales on tap, local art on the walls, a variety of unusual meats served on hot rocks(to grill at your table), and occasionally a live band. Maybe a bit on the spendier side than other pubs in the area, but a quality pub for eating and drinking none the less.

This is the best pub this side of the Kingston Arms and the Cambridge Blue. The monthly hog roast is a delightful affair. The guest ales are always good. The live music varies from okay to super. The wi-fi is free, and they sell cookies from a jar. Winner. The«hot rocks» are great fun, and have facilitated my posting onto Facebook such updates as «mat is now eating reindeer, poor rudolph», «mat had not heard of blesbok before, but is now apparently eating it», «mat is eating springbok, previously thought this was a type of running shoe», «mat cannot believe he is eating zebra, is this even legal?» etc. The fish and chips? Could this possibly be the very best melt-in-the-mouth battered fish in the whole of Cambridge?(Okay, probably not — but it’s definitely up there with the best, and comes highly recommended!) The ambience and décor in the bar area is lovely: a toasty fire in winter, gorgeous sunlight in summer. It looks like something out of the 1920s. The music policy is gentle and centres around latin, big band, and vocal jazz. Service is consistently brilliant. The main dining area can get unpleasantly noisy in the evenings, and seems to attract the loudest groups of people ever. That’s the problem with great places: they are so good they attract big groups of people. I am very lucky to have this wonderful pub in spitting distance from my partner’s diggs in Cambridge and I’m always excited to go there for a quick wee dram at the end of an evening or a summer’s lunch or a dinner out. Elvis, the manager, is hospitable, and one gets the impression he hasn’t slept nor taken any time off work for the last 5 years. He’s there constantly and it shows from the fact the service and food standards are consistently high. A true gem.

Cambridge has a load of fantastic pubs and, having spent 4 years of university there, I made a valiant effort to frequent most of them. Strangely I never found this one until after I graduated but I am so happy I did!!! This place has everything you could ever want… a patio seating area, a bar and a restaurant that serves meat on hot bricks so you can cook it at your table! Not only is it meat but they do crocodile, bison, kangaroo etc etc… this place makes me HAPPY!!!

Brilliant pub — great size for a back street pub. I think it’s tied but can’t recall the brewery but have found Black Sheep on. Wine list is good and nice coffee. Fires in the winter a well make a great atmosphere and Elvis is friendly, amiable chap. Mostly I go for the food, as last reviewer has said, it’s unique and works well.

The Geldart has just been re-opened after being taken over by Elvis, the bar manager from the(most excellent) Kingston Arms. He’s made a solid start, turning an unwelcoming and rundown pub into a venue with a lot of potential. Elvis has brought over some of the things that made the Kingston Arms stand out, such as the free internet access and has added some twists of his own. The foremost of these is the ‘hot rocks’ dishes on the the menu — you are presented with a tray upon which rests a large and very hot slab of rock, wich you use to cook your dish, be it lime chicken or vegetable kebab, yourself. It could be gimmicky, but it works because the quality of the food is good. There’s more to come from this pub and I look forward to more changes.
