Wandered in based on nothing but an attractive front, and we were hungry. The good: Good specials, we both ordered hamburgers(two different types) off their special price, which was, I think a pretty good deal. Their menu has several 2 for XX specials, so I think that this is a good place for an easy bite with your significant other. As for food, their chips were better than average and served piping hot, and the food was delivered fairly fast. The OK: The Burgers were reasonably good, but nothing I would write home about. My wife ordered a plain ol’ burger and was middle-of-the-road satisfied. I ordered the BBQ pork burger, which is supposed to come with shredded/bbq pork on top of the hamburger patty. I felt taken advantage of, as the amount of pork was pitiful. It might have been a tablespoon of pork in a little lump, centered under the cheese. The burger itself wasn’t too bad, but the pork-on-top hook, which could have really popped, was poorly executed. Service was acceptable and pretty much to be expected, nothing special, but no complaints. The bad: They give you a small pile of onion rings with your burger and chips. It’s a nice extra. Right up until you actually take a bite of one of these aberations. Let’s break this down, an «onion» ring should be understood to contain the key ingrediant of a ring of ONION. The shape of an onion ring is indicative of it’s tasty core. These things are little bread rings with powdered onion in the batter that leave you feeling like the flavor rug just got pulled out from under your mouth. I felt like that little ring, which had elicited surprised glee when it showed up unannounced on the plate, had broken its promise to me somehow. Where is the onion? I don’t regret the visit, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to bring notice of it to my friends if they visited Canterbury.

We ran into some friends on the street and ended up going here for dinner/pints one night in Canterbury. The building is SOCOOL on the inside! The food was about average. Someone said that the burgers were«the best», but mine tasted weird. The patty had the consistency of a sausage patty, not hamburger. And English bacon on a burger is… really odd. I love English bacon, but«bacon burger» conjures up something different in my mind… perhaps just not what I was expecting. My friend got fish and chips and that was really tasty, and my other friend professed to enjoy his Indian dinner. This is standard«chain» pub fare, and I wouldn’t go back for the food.(They do have a meal deal where you get burger, fries and a pint for less than £6, so that is a huge plus.) The pints are very affordable — £3.02 for my second cider, to be exact. The bartender was really friendly and cool, not mean to Americans like some pub doods, and the other people in the bar were nice as well. I’d visit again when I’m in the area, and get a couple pints.
