Very helpful when it came to making the purchases but once the sale had been made the service deteriorated greatly. We waited way beyond the stated lead time for the pieces and had to chase for updates several times. In fact, we were not updated at all without chasing. We were subsequently promised some compensation for the poor service, which has not appeared and all subsequent emails concerning this have been ignored. I will not be recommending them not will be visiting again. Generally, I expect to be treated rather better when parting with this sort of money.

This is the 2nd Blue dot gallery to have opened up in our fine city amongst the newly built St David’s 2. This must be a sign that the other gallery has been doing well if they feel the need to open up a second, however this one is in a much better positioning for passing trade than the other one was. I like art. See, I like to think of myself as a bit of an artist myself, I’d say the paintings of tables with flowers that I used to produce in school were quite the riot. I even have blank canvasses staring at me as I sit, awaiting me to start on them after an art induced inspiration one day that hasn’t quite come to fruition. Anyway, must stop digressing, back to reviewing Blue dot gallery. I perused the offerings of various artists, thinking that I surely could do better than that splattering of colour — this was probably where me buying the blank canvasses inspiration came from — there were some incredible pieces however and I reckon if I was to become rich one day, I might even come here and consider buying something, but for now I need to pluck up the motivation to paint my own fruit bowl related masterpieces.

It strikes me as pretty strange that a gallery like this is positioned here In St Davids. Try to imagine the average shopper pulling out a list: Black socks. Tick. Toilet roll(NOT pink again). Tick. Some flowers for Nan. Tick. Some more batteries(AA). Tick. A painting for the eastern suite of the house(try Blue Dot???)… This kind of scenario is hard to imagine because, quite simply, it just doesn’t happen. To add to this sense of displacement, the owners of this store seem quite offended if you appear to be a casual browser. Glasses of champaign stacked on the bar will swiftly be forgotten if you ask a question which suggests creative interest more than money to burn. Forgotten, that is, until a swish pair of yuppies come in. Blue Dot try to compensate for their thoroughly commercial placing by tailoring their art to popular culture. Hence, you will see special collections from artists such as Rolf Harris. Also, a lot of the art tends to echo sentimental clichés or draw on bold cartoon characters perhaps more at home on Cartoon Network than in a chic and affluent lounge. URBANCHALLENGE: Recreate that scene from pretty woman and get your revenge on snooty staff

Sitting within the confines of St David’s 2, the only thing I could afford to buy in this store is a copy of The Fine Art Preview which cost me £2.50. If you’re just passing by and don’t have £500 or more burning a hole in your pocket then you may well simply pass on by without a second glance. However, if you have an eye for art, or simply know what you like, if something catches your eye whilst walking by, you may find yourself drawn inside for a closer look. I found myself gazing at one of the pieces in the window for around 15 minutes before I realised. When I did realise how long I’d been entangled, I felt obliged to venture inside and see what else they had to offer. Inside I expected to find snobbery and judgement but this simply isn’t true. The staff there appeared very down to earth, very willing to just talk about art and to provide as much information for you as they can offer to you. I didn’t feel out of place at all, in fact, if I had the money I dare say I would have walked out of there with more than just a magazine. This is a place for all art lovers to visit even if your wallet doesn’t meet their price range. I think they have an impressive gallery and are probably highly overlooked, too easily disregarded in the retail environment they are surrounded by.

Inside of the huge new shopping complex of the city centre of Cardiff there’s a little art gallery full of pretty pricey paintings. It’s called the Blue Dot Gallery and it’s got a wide variety of art available. There’s water painting, traditional landscapes, more modern artistic techniques, work by local artists, sculptures, and work by Rolf Harris. You heard correct. The Rolfmeister himself. The art isn’t cheap, some pieces can be a few grand, but if you are on the look-out for some art then there are some available for a couple of hundred pound. Now, for the likes of me that is an extortionate amount to pay for anything that isn’t, oh I don’t know, extra money. But it’s not bad value, I suppose. They also offer an option for some pieces to be paid for over a longer period on an interest free basis.
