Lovely jubbly. This has been our local Chinese takeaway for the two years we’ve lived in Cathays, and it always does the job. HUGE menu, staff are always friendly, and we normally order over the phone then pop round the corner after fifteen minutes and it’s always ready. Cheap prices(standard I suppose) and they don’t scrimp on portion sizes. Only complaint would be that my favourite dish(salt and pepper chicken) there is dry and quite tasteless, whereas my local Chinese at home does it in a sauce and it is TODIEFOR. Go for the crispy shredded beef, kung po chicken or duck pancakes instead.

Okay, so it doesn’t look much. Just an ordinary takeaway, right? Wrong. Golden Dragon is amazing. We were fist acquainted when I used to visit my girlfriend at the weekend(before I started living in Cardiff) and we used to spend the entire weekend in bed(hush now, none of your filth) and be so lazy that takeaways were our main nourishment. Golden Dragon was just up the road and we thought we’d try it. Thank God for that decision. The food is just delicious, as good a Chinese as I’ve ever had, and the menu is expansive. To save you time though I’ve come up with the definitive meal. To Start: Crispy Aromatic Duck Main: Chicken in Lemon Sauce Crispy shredded Beef with Chilli — The best around Roast Duck in Orange Sauce Egg Fried Rice Dessert: You’re kidding. After all that you won’t be able to stand. Honestly, I doubt you can do any better than that. If you’re feeling adventurous then there are some tasty Szechuan dishes, but bear in mind, they’re not for the faint hearted! Golden Dragon also delivers, so what are you waiting for?

The night we all had food at the Golden Dragon was one of those nights when you’re all sitting around saying to each other: ‘Oh, I can’t be bothered to cook. No, me neither… Should we… …get a takeaway? Can we afford it? Do we care?‘ You know the conversation. So, safe in the knowledge that everyone was spending more money than they should, we all headed out to get some food. I had a meal deal which came to £5.80(well, if you’re going to spend a little, you might as well spend a lot!(We’re all students so that is a lot!)) — sweetcorn soup, egg fried rice and mixed vegetables with cashew nuts. All of the food was absolutely delicious. The only reason I haven’t given this take away(they do deliver) a higher rating is because we had to wait quite a long time for our food to be ready. It took half an hour for mine, but one friend got her’s after 15minutes and another after 40! Obviously that makes eating together awkward — but, my goodness, I didn’t mind at all as soon as I took the first bite. My stomach thanked me for it, and yours will too.
