Previous experience with used-​car dealerships has taught me to be wary. Usually I leave feeling like a gazelle who’s barely survived an encounter with a particularly ravenous lion. Thankfully, visiting (and buying from) Hewson Motors wasn’t like that. The two salesmen are also the owners, so they really seem to care about the quality of their stock and about listening to the customer’s needs. The saleman I dealt with (John) was friendly, helpful, told corny old jokes that he somehow made funny and didn’t whack me with the hard-​sell once my guard was down. Prices seem to be very competitive too: I live in Devon and the Freelander I bought from them was the cheapest (and nicest looking from the pics on their site) I could find on the net within reasonable travelling distance. Fortunately, everything about it was exactly as they said it would be and more than justified the trip from Devon to Cardiff.
