I’m in total agreement with Laura where take aways are concerned. I really don’t like it when they try to ‘be all things to all men’, particularly when they start mixing Chinese food(which I love) with English food(that I could really live quite happily without). This is especially true in this case considering that there is one of Cardiff’s finest fish and chip shops just a few doors up from Lee’s Take Away! I’m not denying that Chinese take aways can’t do good fish and chips, I know several that can. But as far as I am concerned, I come to Lee’s to buy Chinese food and nothing else. I guess that it helps large groups decide on where to order their food if there is more than one style of cuisine on offer, as not everyone likes Chinese food(my sister-in-law for one… which can be irksome at times, as she refuses point blank to consider eating it, which means that everyone else misses out)… so I guess, all things considered, my disapproval is misplaced. Perhaps all Chinese take aways and restaurants should do more than one style of cooking so that I would get to eat it more often! Lee’s Take Away do excellent food, and offer a really good range of dishes. They have a sizeable selction of vegetarian options and their pricing is in line with other take aways. They are doing something that they call a ‘meal box’ at the moment that is incredible value for money. These cost £4.80 and are comprised of a main meal and side order like noodles or rice. You can choose from about eight different mains, this contains a couple of my favourites like Sweet and Sour Chicken and Chicken Satay, and also includes pork and beef options too.

If you know me at all, you’ll know that I can’t stand places like this that try to be both chinese take aways and fish and chip shops. Both just end up being horrid. This is the case here really — well, it doesn’t end up HORRID as much as just not really that great. The sign above the door says ‘Lee’s Fish Bar’ — but the business listing on here said ‘Lee’s Chinese Takeaway’. This is, then, at the very heart of the problem. The food is really cheap and the service is pretty good, it’s true. However, there does have to be a balance between that and good food. On principle I wouldn’t want to eat from here. My reservations were proved correct and I was left with food that was simply adequate.
