Script to Sceren is a fabulous place basically just a theatrical costume and prop hire shop. I found out about it when I was a film student. It’s hidden away on a tiny industrial estate a stones throw from the Three Brewers pub and I never knew it was there. It’s a huge warehouse, rammed from floor to ceiling with costumes and mad props. Just go for a wander round it’s worth the effort. I had to hire two brides dresses and they’ve got loads, so we were all trying them on in the aisles and probably making ourselves a bit of a nuisance but the staff are used to students and their weird requests. For a fancy dress party I would recommend coming here. The other good thing is that they were prepared to do a generous sliding scale as we basically had no budget for anything. So instead of hiring stuff for three days we hired stuff by the half day to help the costs. I have to say the price was reasonable and the staff are friendly and interested in whatever project you’re doing.

This shop is fantastic… I went here recently to find suitable attire for a fancy dress wedding I had been invited to. I went as a fairy… I have always liked fairies and this was a good excuse to turn back time and entertain my obsession with Tinkerbell! They had three fairy costumes to choose from but my heart skipped a beat when I saw the gold one so I went for that! The fairy costume itself only cost £16.50 to hire and it made me look and feel the part(although I don’t think many fairies get drunk). Apart from that this shop is tip-top-tastic and I will definately return when the times come!

What does a dog, Elvis and 50’s pimp and Count Dracula have in common? At different points in my life I have been all of them thanks to Script to Screen. If you have a fancy dress party to go to and want to make a real splash then nobody will top your costume if you hire it from Script to Screen. They have a colossal warehouse of costume that will suit you for any occasion. By warned though it will cost you as they are professional costumiers so if you’re not going to a proper fancy dress party then think twice, check out their website. Having said that they also have lots of accessories(mustaches, plastic cigars, fake blood, silly sunglasses etc) to add to a home made costume that cost next to nothing.

Into fashion? Need some kind of costume? Need a period dress? An action hero costume? Or a fantasy costume such as a Harry Potter Hogwarts school uniform costume? Then this is the ideal, most best, but slightly expensive costume shop that you will find within Cardiff. This particular shop is located in Colchester Avenue, and it is not easy to get to so you may find that you need a car to be able to travel to it too. It is a lovely shop though… from how I remember it, it had period masks in at the front, and cartoon character masks and accessories for your costume. Apparently this company are the UK’s largest costume company. I got a Hermione; Harry Potter, Hogwarts Gryffindor outfit for something like £34 a day for a friend’s birthday party and it was a fair bit tight. I’m not a skinny person at all; mind you back then I wasn’t as big as I am now, but I took it because it was coming up to my friend’s birthday party date and I was running out of options. I think they said they could have ordered me another costume in a slightly larger size, but that it would take a while to be delivered and that would have been after my friend’s birthday party. So it would be good if there could have been a way for me to have ordered one in advance, in my body, dress size. The staff where chatty, welcoming and very helpful, they assisted me promptly and let me know what was what. I would recommend it for all those who need a costume and for all those who can afford the costumes at their prices. They may have changed some details these days and on their website they say they are doing discounts throughout August 2010.

If you’ve ever done anything even slightly theatrical in and around the South Wales area, you can just skip this review. You already know everything I’m going to say. For those of you who have yet to have the pleasure, and for those of you considering your next costume, Script To Screen has what you need. Down and around the back-street warehouses of the Colchester Avenue area is this massive aircraft hangar stuffed with all manner of costumes, from werewolves and princess to ninjas and the entire cast of West Side Story. On top of this, they also have a mind-boggling range of theatrical props, for stage use and for the common man who just really, really needs a pimp cane for whatever reason. If they don’t have the costume in stock, a phonecall a week or so beforehand usually ensures that they will have it for you by the required date and schools get a bit of a discount. If you’re doing a show, it’s not unheard of for them to arrange a bulk-purchase/rental deal either.

I went in a lady and I came out a werewolf… I had the paws, the claws, the mask(soft rubber and realistic fur), the body suit and last of all I slipped on the attitude. Script to screen sells quality costumes, the kind of stuff you see on the tv and stage, in fact if you’re a pro company in South Wales and you’re not getting it done in-house then this is THE place to come. Luckily enough for us lay folk they sell to the general public also. The Script to Screen warehouse is just off Colchester Avenue — it’s huuuuge, it has to house all their outfits. Their stock includes famous couples, horror and ghouls, pop stars, masks, wigs and accessories. Tip: Schools and armed forces get special discount rates.

If you are looking to hire a costume this is the best place to go in Cardiff. It is a huge warehouse that you can quite easily spend a couple of hours walking around trying stuff on and having a good laugh. They have every costume you can imagine, even specialist stuff. The staff are helpful and you can check out their website to have a look before you go down. They are on an industrial estate off colchester avenue which took me a while to find but it is well worth it. They also sell the costumes and accessories, but there is not such a huge selection to buy. Make sure you go down a good month before halloween/new years to book out your costume as they are really busy around those times.
