Had a groupon voucher so wouldn’t normally have tried Stefano’s but what a gem. Couldn’t fault the place, beautiful décor, fab atmosphere, staff attentive and polite and the food was amazing. A little pricey but worth it. Will definately go again.

Have just left this restaurant, it was bad. Bad Food, bad service, seriously over priced, actually just really bad. You can walk 2 minutes more & be in the Conway, Oscars, Cinnamon Tree(at least these restaurants make a effort). Walked up to the door way to be greeted by 2 of the staff smoking on the door step. At least go 50 yards round the corner. I honestly think my pizza was from the tesco’s round the corner. It was burnt, tasted cheap. The House white wine was ok, did’nt mind paying £15 for it. Generally felt ripped off. Not Happy, not happy at all.

Stefano’s is an Italian in the affluent Pontcanna area of Cardiff, which means it is home to plenty of fierce foodie competition. Named after proprietor Stefano Caramella, Stefano’s walls are decorated with typical, old-fashioned Italian frescos and the food served up isn’t bad at all — but it just can’t compete with some of Cardiff’s other Italians in terms of atmosphere. I’d rather head for neighbouring Canton, where there are a couple of great Italians sat side by side on Cowbridge Road East(The Italian Way and La Lupa) — which are always lively and packed with people at weekends. The surroundings are less leafy, but the overall atmosphere makes it worthwhile. If you want to eat al fresco, however, Stefano’s wins hands down thanks to its heated outdoor patio — something which the others don’t offer. They also offer a take away service.

I have only been here once and don’t think I will go again of my own free will(a friend may book a party here for a special occasion in which case it would just be rude not to turn up). There was nothing particularly wrong with the food but that’s about it. I honestly think i could have coked better at home for a fifth of the price. The waiter had forgotten how to smile — which always taints my view on a place. What can I say it would have been unmemorable had I not had the misfortune to remember it.

Lovely restaurant, great atmosphere, wonderful front of house and the food is superb… be sure to check the specials, great! All round great meal out with an intimate true Italian feel.

I have eaten in so many Italian’s that I am inevitably disappointed with most of them these days and I was really hoping for more from this place since its in the ‘posh quarter’ aka Pontcanna! The décor inside is bit dated with Italian scenes painted on the walls that make it feel like a tacky holiday restaurant but it does have a lovely outdoor area to enjoy the summer dining. Food wise its alright, nothing really outstanding though for the fairly high price and considering the amount of competition its just not quite up to scratch.

Overpriced, mediocre quality. Manager/owner loves to play the host but when people aren’t happy runs and hides. Pathetic. Avoid. At the prices they charge, save up for an extra week and go to Le Gallois next door(much better and they are justified in their pricing). I’m glad Carluccio’s is coming to Cardiff to show these lazy restaurateurs how it can be done.

Stefano’s is not a restaurant I will return to. The set menu on International day is £24 — as a vegetarian I had only 1 option leek and potato soup to start and a tomato pasta as a main. Both were meals I could have made at home and were not outstanding in any way. I asked whether another starter on the menu could be prepared without meat and the answer was no — not very helpful. My meat eating friends appeared happier with their food. I usually love Italian food and most Italian restaurants cater well for vegetarians. Stefano’s gave me the impression that they were only interested in cashing in on International Day.

I think this restaurant has really great italian food, at a good price. The wine list is extensive and the staff are really friendly and helpful. If you have any dietry requirements they are very helpful with making suggestions or taking ingredients out if you can’t eat them. There is a really nice family atmosphere, very inviting and cosy. It can be busy at the weekends so i suggest booking in advance.
