love this place. The staff are friendly and the 2 courses for £10 offer is brilliant at lunch time I pass this restaurant everyday going to work. I cannot wait for the deli to open and may even try relocate my job to that side of town to eat lunches there :)

The Gutsy Goose was recommended to me by a friend that lives locally, and this was a second date with a girl that is way more attractive than me. so I had to pull out the big guns and flash the cash. There was a party of around 16 people in there as we walked in as well as maybe two other couples eating, and it’s a small place so everyone turned to look as my date has massive fake ones. that was a bit odd but not the restaurants fault. We’re not old like, she’s 26 and I’m 30. The staff were great though, really welcoming and attentive. Our waitress read out the specials without flinching or glancing up at the specials board to remind herself. I ordered a decent bottle of red wine, there’s no way I would have done that if I was out with some friends, but I was out to impress. As we saw the food come out to the other diners we were getting excited to eat as it all looked and smelled so good. You’d have thought we were at the Savoy the way she was eyeing everything up. I don’t think she’d been to a decent place before, so this was blowing her mind. We ordered a couple of Rib-Eye steaks, I went for medium rare and, to my surprise, she went for rare. I was impressed. As the wine was bought out we were offered a little appetizer free of charge, just a little crusty bread with some goats cheese and onion marmalade. That was a great little touch. I don’t normally like goats cheese as the taste reminds me of an old man’s foot, but this time it was really nice. We had only knocked back about a half glass of wine each and the steaks came out. They were big, juicy and cooked to perfection. I had the blue cheese sauce with mine and it was just right. She had the peppercorn sauce and still bangs on about it to this day(we’re still dating, I think the Gutsy Goose went a long way towards securing that deal). Conversation was tough as she’s proper Welsh and I’m very English, so it was hard to understand what she was on about at first. The music in there isn’t overpowering though, so we could hear each other clearly and we got on like a house on fire. We didn’t have deserts, which I don’t think made me look like tight. She said she was full, and as I was driving she’d had most of that bottle of wine so I think she was a little tipsy. I chucked on a 10% tip to the card payment as the waitress was really helpful and knowledgeable. My date had nipped to the toilet though, so didn’t see my generosity. I think it came to around £60 in all. I’d say that’s great for a real nice, romantic dinner. So I’d say the Gutsy Goose is a winner all round. We’ll be back. Visited late 2014
