Horrific. The place is old and the people are older. As I sat down on one of the chairs in the back, I was suffocated by a cloud of dust that filled my nose and mouth with dead skin. The music was really bad and most of the people in there looked like they were about to die.

To be found on the rather busy Caerphilly Road, it’s easy to bypass this pub for The Aneurin Bevan or The Birchgrove, and to be honest you will not be missing out on much. That’s not to say that The New Inn(or THE N W INN as the sign reads) is in any way unpleasant. It is a perfectly fine and clean pub, just a bit«meh» if you’ll excuse the vernacular. It has an oddly cold feel about it, like an airport departure lounge has. Maybe that is to do with the weird carpet, resembling something like Captain Beefheart saw every time he closed his eyes during the recording of Trout Mask Replica. The New Inn has Magners on tap, Brains Bitter and Hancocks HB on cask and a variety of Koppabergs and even Barcadi Breezers(do people still drink them?) in the fridges. There’s a pool table, a darts board and a bonkers quiz machine with two screens called an Open Machine. There are comfy seats galore and a hearty if standard-looking menu. Sundays = free jukebox Wednesdays = poker at 8pm Thursdays = quiz at 8.30pm Saturdays = karaōke at 8pm
