Xscape Castleford

One of the best places in Yorkshire for entertainment and activities. Excellent facilities well maintained, great variation of food outlets on offer and shops offering just about everything you need for skiing etc. Not to mention the indoor real snow ski slope! Overall great fun and great value or money.

Lots to do. Not tried the shopping bit yet.

Great place for someting to eat, drink and has a good shopping centre accross the road.
Also great if you like winter sports and want to go skiing on real snow inside.
So pretty good place to go and visit … and theres a cinema too!

I’ve been to Xscape a few times. We often go there for lunch as there are loads and loads of restaurants, and then afterwards I’ll go skiing while the wife pops over to the outlet to do some shopping.
This is the only ‘real’ snow slope I’ve been on apart from the actual thing, so I don’t know how it compares, but I think it’s pretty good. It’s really cold inside so you do need your proper ski gear rather than what you’d wear to dry-​ski slopes.
It’s a bit expensive, but it’s worth it now and again because it’s something that you just can’t do anywhere else in the area.
As well as the skiing and restaurants, they’ve got indoor crazy golf which I’ve never tried but heard is good, and a large kids play area which we went to once and was pretty average. There’s climbing walls and loads of sports/​ski related shops inside as well.
It’s a great day out, so if you can afford it you should visit.

This is a great place to visit whatever the weather.
The main focus is the skiing, which is on REAL snow. Don’t ask me how they make it, but they do! There are also numerous restaurants, a cinema, several sports shops and other sporty things like climbing walls.
Good for families with different interests: my husband often goes skiing while I slink off to the large Outlet shopping village next door, and we meet for lunch in Chiquitos or Pizza Express. There’s a good kids play area too although parents have to stay as it isn’t a crèche. There’s crazy golf too (indoor) but I’ve never tried it. Sounds fun though!
Free parking, which in my opinion contains far too many disabled spaces as most of them are always empty, compared to the number of parent & toddler spaces, which are always full! Probably because everyone parks in them without kids though. Or maybe the times of day I visit. Anyway, only a minor point — otherwise this is a great place to visit. Pricey though!

xscape is situated on Colorado Way, Glasshoughton, Castelford off the M62.
There is ample free carparking which is good news.
The front of the facility is modern, clean and attractive.
Inside there are some places to eat and some shops to browse. including some great ski wear shops. super ski boots! and there are toilets which are clean.
There is an Ice Wall and a climbing wall in the building too. look great fun!
I went to Xscape for lessons.
There are changing rooms which are roomy and clean. There are lockers which was very handy.
There are benches to sit on while waiting to be met by the instructors who teach ski and snow boarding. It is advisable to book in advance.
On the slope, to the right is a beginners small slope that is screened off by a large orange net. This has a pull rope to the side that you hold on to. The slope is gentle and small and cones are used once you have found your feet and gained a little confidence. The instructor was really good. There were about 6 in the group.
The larger slope seems quite high to me but I am no skilled skiier! it is quite steep at the top section (for me) and the lower section is much less steep so I found that easier to handle. There are button lifts to either side.
The slope is normally well managed to ensure the safety of all.
I had approx six lessons and then found that I had the skill and confidence to go on my own, it was great fun.
The prices are reasonable and the facility is well maintained and clean and bright… and pretty nippy!
The atmosphere is nice, the staff and instructors are very helpful and friendly and good fun… can be sympathetic too, when you fall.ooops.
All in all a great experience and I would highly recommend it to budding skiiers.
The xscape is opposite a large shopping area that has quite a few high street names and others too, worth a look.

Xscape has loads of indoor activities. The main attraction is a large snowslope for snowboarding /​skiing/​tobogganing. There is a bar overlooking the slope, which makes for pretty good viewing in itself (although I think they could have the bar cosier, more like you would get in a real ski resort).
Other attractions include a cinema, laserquest, arcades, bowling, a soft play children’s area, restaurants and bars, a climbing wall. So, obviously, there’s alot to choose from. However, everything is really pricey, so you have to go armed with money if you want to do stuff, or be prepared to just amble around, watching other people do stuff, which is kind of entertaining in itself

Xscape is a must-​visit on a rainly day! There is so much to do! The cinema is excellent (cineworld) and there are so many resturants to choose from as well as bars, shops, bowling and — of course — the real ski slope! Great location (just off the M62 at Junction 32) and lots of free parking, also right next to Junction 32 Outlet Village so well worth a visit!

Xplore is a soft play centre at Xscape in CastlefordI came across Xplore soft play while browsing through the Xscape web site and thought it sounded perfect for my toddler who has taken to using all my furniture as gym equipment since starting gymnastics. I also hoped he’d be warn out afterwards and give me a break.
Xplore is located on the upper floor of the Xscape building. Entry starts at 3.99 for tots during the week and prices are more expensive at the weekend. A play session last for 1 hour and a half. Here’s a full list of pricesMonday to Friday —

Adults FreeThe theme of xplore is underwater with sharks and fish everywhere not really too sure how this fits in with the rest of xscape and also thought it was a bit random having a underwater theme mixture with what appeared to be space ship type areas to sit in but anyway I’m sure the kids wont even notice or care. There was plenty to do including lots of giant slides and climbing areas. I had to admitted to feeling like a big kid taking my son down the slides as he was of course far too young to go down unaccompanied and of course I fancied a go too. For the toddlers there is a special play area with smaller slides plently of cars to ride and a kitchen to play in and of course if they are brave enough all the bigger stuff too. Slightly disappointed that there wasn’t any ball pools as they are a favourite of my son but he didn’t care as there is lots of keep little one amused. Also for the grown ups there is a café so you can let your little angels run riots while you grab a quick coffee or a meal. All the staff were friendly and there was plenty of them around keeping an eye on the kids which was good and most likely having a good laugh watching the grown ups play too. It really simple to find just come off at junction 32 of the m62 and your right there its signed to xscape. You can’t miss it. Parking is free which is always a bonus but I could have do with a map to navigate my way out of the car park it was huge and I admit I did take a few wrong turns
