Fabulous olde worlde English inn which is dog-friendly inside and out.(not in the restaurant but the bar is much nicer for eating anyway and the menu’s the same). Roaring fire in the winter and a warm welcome all year round. Accommodation is simple but modern, clean, comfortable, and… dog friendly! View is fab and hopefully the train either won’t go ahead or will go through a tunnel.

We had been at the ivy house for 8 days and have had a wonderful time there. Not that often we had experienced such an obliging and charming atmosphere. The service was absolutely perfect. Room service as well as service for breakfast and lunch. It is obviously that the staff likes their work and caring for the visitors. Yes the room was not that big, but it was absolutey big enough for my wife and me. The only thing which really is to keep in mind is the good frequented street in front of the house which offers no footpath. So our daily trips to London started with taxi to chalfont & latimer(6GBP). No question: we will come back to our ivy house. What better recomondation is possible to give? Btw. For golfers is waiting an 18 hole golf yard, footpath starts directly behind the ivy house.

I take Sunday lunch very seriously when we’re in the UK. If a pub says it serves«Traditional Sunday Lunch,» I expect it to be served by a balding landlord, huffing up the stairs from the too-small kitchen while arguing loudly with his once-attractive but now tragically large-busted and over-made-up wife(called Barbara), while muttering insults under his wheezing breath. Too specific, y’think? Probably, but that’s my expectation and, damn it, I’m the customer! Which brings us to The Ivy House, a great pub stuck on a hillocks to the side of the Amersham Road. We visited with a quite-large party, in the latter hours of what is generally considered lunchtime. It was to be our last big meal before flying home, and I had taste buds that needed to be sated for about another year. The place delivered mightily. Pleasingly for our diverse crew, it had a great selection of meals for traditionalists, kids, and vegetarians. Service was swift and friendly absent the balding landlord and trollopy wife in my imagination but full of an efficient waiter who couldn’t have been more helpful. The roast beef was good but, as the last of the day, it was a little dry and gristly. The rhubarb and ginger crumble with custard was lovely, though perhaps a tad too sweet for some. All five of the kids with us thoroughly enjoyed their meals, too, so the whole party was completely happy. The ale I had was the icing on the cake(not literally), though it’s name now escapes me. The Ivy House is an excellent spot for a great Sunday lunch. They had signs in the pub, asking for patrons to support an effort to stop a new train track being laid across the fields right in front of the pub. I surely hope they succeed in this effort. The pub’s in a very serene spot. If we’re ever in the area again, we’ll be back.

We’ve just had one of the best pub meals ever. The pork was spectacular with the best crackling I’ve ever tasted, the sausages with bubble & squeak were perfect, the deserts brilliant and wven the coffee was spot on. Excellent value to with the set menu prices. On top of that the service was excellent and our two waitresses were charming, sharp, observant and very friendly. A superb experience.

This is a lovely, if small, pub with a restaurant attached. Plus points first. the service is fantastic. Best I’ve experienced anywhere. The atmosphere was good, friendly. The bad point. Only one but quite an important one. the food wasn’t that special. Not bad, just boring. It was well presented but did not live up to expectations. However the restaurant was quite busy so I wonder if I was missing something! Not sure if I’ll go again.

Part of the Fullers chain. Reputedly haunted but again I saw nothing. If you are over 5ft 8, mind your head on the beams that cross the upstairs rooms. The room we had was small, and the bathroom not big enough for a bath just a shower cubicle sink and toilet. The room had a double bed, again if you are over average height you might not find it too comfortable. The window to the room was at floor level, the room had a small tv, a kettle. The breakfast was great, and the dinner was from the set menu. We did stay there over Friday night, and there seemed to be a bit of a do on for a local association. The restaurant was beneath our room, so it was quite loud late into the night. Also when we arrived there was a bit of confusion over the voucher that we had and the manager had to phone the head office. This was resolved before we left.
