This review is based solely on an order of a carrot cake and latte, but both were pretty awful. Cake was dry, bland and rife with raisins. Latte was watery and somehow devoid of both coffee and milk taste. For this quality, much too expensive as well. Would not recommend.

Have eaten here a few times from lunch time to an evening meal. Food has always been good and served with a smile.

Fantastic setting with varied(standard Café Rouge) menu, which is reasonable but over-priced. The service is patchy, ranging from polite to couldn’t-care-less, but the general ambience makes the trip worthwhile if you can overlook the shortcomings, which most people probably won’t. Unfortunately sited next door to Pizza Express which is a much better eating option all round.

Café Rouge is situated in the pedistrianised part of Moulsham Street. It has an attractive façade which opens up during summer weather, adding to Chelmsford’s ever growing coffee culture. The staff are welcoming and friendly, you are soon seated upon arrival. The inside is stylish despite it being a chain restaurant following the Parisian Café feel. It has a good range on its menu, I’d recommend the Smoked Salmon and Guyere Cheese toasted sandwich with fries. Soft, hot and some alcholic drinks are available too. The prices of food is reasonable and the drinks pretty standard. I would recommend this place for a friend’s meeting or early dinner. Its town centre location is an added attraction.

The food in Café Rouge is not bad but pretty expensive. The service is hit and miss. A lot of the staff do not seem to speak or understand english very well and there is often a long wait until you receive your meal even when the restaurant is not that busy.
