A standard Wetherspoons pub in the centre of Chelmsford. Prices of drinks are extremely reasonable but, unfortunately, that does attract some ‘unsavoury’ characters. In the case of the Ivory Peg, it does service the usual shopping clientele of families and, like me, oldies. On one of our shopping expeditions, I HATESHOPPING, we decided to have an all-day breakfast. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and quantity of this ‘feast’ for the price. Sausages, Bacon, Hash browns, baked beans, eggs and a mushroom with, which normally places charge extra, slices of toast and butter. Served very quickly with sauces and relishes to hand on the table. We will be back.

Tucked away at the far end of the town just past the market place behind(Marks& Sparks!!) I was met by a very spacious pub with plenty of seating area mostly wooden tables & chairs even Digital TVs for viewing the sporting events, either ends of the pub, staff and clientele in this pub seemed friendly enough, drinks were also reasonably priced, definitely one of the more value for money Wetherspoon pubs I’d say and would also say it’s definitely a good place to spend the evening and have a good chat over a few jars…

Wetherspoons canot be knocked and this is a pleasant emporium. Plenty of tables and the breakfasts offer good value for money. Enjoy the Thursday curry nights and steaks. Wine and beer festivals offer good value for money and plenty of variety. I have always found the staff cheerful and helpful.

Personally i love the peg. cheap and cheerful its just what you expect from a witherspoons. one of the few places left in chelmsford that doesn’t play music on a friday & saturday night witch makes it perfect for the mid afternoon /early evening natter and sociable drinks before hitting the nosier clubs. i would recommend this as the start-the-night bar.

Everything about The Peg is brilliant — except its enormous queues on Friday and Saturday nights, taking approx. 20 minutes to get served! Ridiculous! But apart from that it’s a fab place to go for pre-lash on a night out, or a cheap but cheerful pub for lunch! Lots of options on the menu including burgers, sandwiches, paninis, desserts.

This pub has the best of both great cheaply priced meals and snacks. And great priced drink too. It often has great deals on for cheap drink and meal deals. The only downsides are its doesnt play any music so it gets very noisey from people chatting loudly. Also the toilets are a long trip upstairs a few flights of steps. But they are always very clean and well looked after. Staff are always working fast and you never have to wait too long to be served.

This pub does pretty good food and at a very reasonable price. Their veggie breakfast is brilliant and their veggie curries are cheap and very tasty. I would definitely recommend.
