Balance — the hotel is quirky, boutique it certainly is. The main rooms are trendy, clean, warm, comfortable. The bedroom was not large — but, it was exceptionally well appointed, had a super cool functional bathroom and a nice balcony /terrace. The bed was large, comfortable, nice linen. Great kettle, tea and coffe, cool coffee machine and a nice little bottle of milk rather than those awful plastic fake milk portions you normally get. So — restaurant. I can only tell it how it was. Every staff member we met was helpful, happy, polite, professional — simply can’t say more… Food was good, service Oh, forgot to mention that breakfast was awesome… Don’t worry about breakfast, just enjoy…

Went for afternoon tea with the family, the table we were seated at had no lights above us, so that was irritating to begin with as we had already asked to be moved out of the conservatory as it was to cold, we just dealt with it, but the waiter could of found some where nicer for us, seemed like he couldn’t be bothered to find somewhere else with more decadence rather than the first table you see will do. Then we sat, and waited, and waited. In the end it was an effort to even get hold of someone. Seemed like the service staff just had there little jobs in mind rather than at least keeping 1 eye on the customers. Once orders were placed the tea, cakes and the bubbly all came in a neat fashion and we all enjoyed are selfs. The tea and cakes were fantastic.

I got to stay at this classy space for a business trip in Cheltenham. It was a really nice experience, and from talking to my colleagues, it’s better than many other Cheltenham offerings. Pros: Lovely room, very modern layout. The was only a curtain to separate the shower and bath, so it felt very spacious. Complimentary refrigerator/mini bar, tea, coffee(Nespresso machine), and shortbread tea cookies! Complimentary breakfast — hot breakfast options include eggs benedict or a full English breakfast. Great way to start the morning The overall layout of the hotel is spacious and airy, almost spa-like. Cons: The only laundry service is per piece. Cost quickly adds up. They offered a little iPod loaded with hotel information and things to see in the area. It’s a nice touch, but mine was broken. When I talked to the front desk about it, they said they would fix it but for the 2 weeks I was there, it never improved. This is a little further removed from the downtown area. Add an extra 5 min of walking to get to more of the downtown shops and restaurants.

Very nice hotel near the center of Cheltenham. Rooms have all the modern touches and are on the larger side for England. They also had one of the most comfortable hotel beds I’ve ever slept in. Didn’t’ manage to take advantage of the restaurant or the spa. The one night we tried to eat there the restaurant was booked solid, so make a dinner reservation if you plan to eat in, at least on a Friday or Saturday night. The breakfast was good overall. The eggs benedict were excellent, and they had a reasonable selection on the«cold» menu. They could use at least one sweet option on the menu though. Sometimes I really want waffles, pancakes, or French toast, and nothing like that was available. The only thing that marred the stay was that their coffee is terrible. I like a good cup in the morning before I get moving, and unfortunatly the Montpelier Chapter serves some of the most appallingly bad coffee I’ve ever tasted. It’s really a shame too, since otherwise it’s a really lovely hotel and it’s such an easy thing to do well. The coffee aside, I’ll still give it 4 stars, since it was clean, very comfortable, and the staff were all very pleasant.

We stayed here last Thursday and Friday nights. First impressions were good, the staff were all dressed in converse, there was no reception desk as such, just a big wooded table which staff could put there laptops on, and there was no welcome paperwork, it was all loaded on to an ipod instead. So far, so trendy. But the hotel lets itself down with little details. We had upgraded to a superior room but it was still tiny, I dread to think what a normal room would be like. The shower head in the bathroom was positioned slightly too far back so it wasn’t possible to stand square under the water without standing on the sloped side of the bath. There was no air conditioning controls in the room and it seemed that it was always slightly too warm or slightly too cold for us. The complimentary mini bar only had 2 beers 2 waters a coke and a chocolate bar in it. The fitness suite is a tiny room with a treadmill, exercise bike, cross trainer, a tiny selection of light dumbbells and no room to use them. The service at the bar was erratic, on Thursday night I had to wait 10 minutes for the barman to find the cigars and another 10 minutes for him to fail to find the cigar cutter(although the service on the Friday night was much better). On the Friday we used the spa and this was very good. The massage I had was possibly the best massage I have ever had, so things were looking up. But then we went for dinner in the hotel restaurant that night. The menu was disappointing, including pizzas, burgers and fish and chips. It felt more like a pub menu than the menu of a restaurant in a nice hotel. So we stood up and left.
