The Blackhouse Grill

Not long ago I was in Chester… and hungry! It’s rather hard to book a table anywhere in Chester short notice so I was glad this place had space.
The décor of the restaurant was great and there was plenty of seating. There was a hustly-​bustly feel to this restaurant but at the same time it was cool and relaxed.
I was sat right next to a large fish tank full of tropical fish so I was definitely entertained while I awaited the staff to come and take my order. There was so much to choose from on the menu and it all looked so good! The kitchen opened on to the restaurant and I had a great view of the scrummy dishes being prepared.
The food was great, perfect in fact! I had teriyaki sea bass which was unusual but amazing.
The staff were chatty, polite and were happy to serve. I definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting this area. A definite 5 stars from me!

Really interesting grill with lots of surf and turf on the menu. The setting is really nice, as is the service.
I had drinks and a T-​bone, and wasn’t let down. I’d recommend this place to everyone looking for an uncomplicated grill experience in the centre of Chester.

I intend having my ashes scattered on their grill, i kid you not.
My dining experience consists of 3 major elements, in no particular order;
Ambiance
Service
Freshly prepared food
and Blackhouse checks all the boxes mate. From the live music in the evening to the servers who remember your favourite cocktail through to fresh Lobster and Oysters.
This where i go for my de-​constructed Bloody Mary in the early evening, they give you all the ingredients in a little wooden box alongside a large shot of Kettle Vodka on ice and you make it to suit. Truly superb.
Props to the servers as they are always up and have a really positive but non intrusive way about them. During race days in town they also offer a Race Day breakfast with a spot on Full Monty English or if you fettle is not up to that then try their Eggs Benedict or Florentine with a flute of champers. Oh and lest I forget, they also do an excellent Traditional Sunday Dinner with Roasters, Yorkshire Pud and all the trimmings.

Good all round dining experience, however it can get a bit noisy depending on how busy it is. The prices are quite high, but the food is of a good standard. My only real quibble is that the desert could have been a bit bigger.

Many diners will no doubt make a special trip for the Kobe beef; however in my opinion the lobster and chips takes some beating!

One of my fav posher eateries, nothing is too much trouble here for the staff and we’ve eaten here with friends and just the two of us. it can be quite expensive but a great selection and lovely staff ⁸⁄₁₀

I have continually visited the restaurant since it opened, the staff are lovely, very attentive but not in your face. The food has always been gorgeous, best restaurant in Chester! (Thank-​you Joe and the team)! The mix of healthy ingredients means you can be ‘naughty or nice’ one lunch time try the steak sandwich with fresh hand cut chips — it is to die for!

The Blackhouse Grill is fairly new to the Chester food scene — but has several other locations around the country including Manchester, so some may be familiar with it.
The style of food is mixed — focusing on grilled (obviously) but also venturing into pasta, and some other European dishes. The quality of food tends to be very good and the service is also excellent. The décor is very modern and the atmosphere tends to be quite lively — I’ve rarely seen this place anything less than full.
Another nice feature of the place is that it has some outside seating, which is actually quite rare in Chester. This is only of interest on nice days of course and the views is far from stunning (a main road) — but it can still be nice to get outside now and then.
The prices are above average but the class has a fairly ‘classy’ feel so you don’t really begrudge paying them. They also regularly do 20% offers which are worth looking out for.

Friendly, bubbly atmosphere. Staff very helpful with good knowledge of menu & how the dish is prepared. We had a table booked after the Chester races (Sat 28 Jun 08) and turned up a wee bit early. Duty Manageress took us to an outside table and took our drinks order, returning with menu’s & specials board. We could sit & relax choosing our meals. Once our table was ready, we were taken inside and waiter followed with our drinks. The meals serve were excellent. Full of flavour and cooked to perfection. Not easy to please two fussy teenage daughters! The bar/​drinks menu is excellent too. Next time I visit the restaurant I shall leave the car. Very very good value in Chester city centre.
