I booked tickets for myself and some friends to go see Eliza and the Bear in Chester but I hadn’t been to the venue before so didn’t know what to expect at all. It is two minutes walk from the station so was really convenient. What really shocked be about this place was how small it was! Probably around 200 people max per gig. Tickets were reasonable and they had a £1 cloakroom available. We went into the side bar area beforehand for some pre-gig drinks and it resembled an old social club, a bit dark and dingy but really added to the charm of this venue that clearly isn’t a big budget production. Drinks were average venue price so nothing to complain about there. We moved round the main room where we saw three brilliant acts and around 150 people in the audience. A really great atmosphere, the acts were hanging out with the audience and it felt a lot more personal than a lot of big venues. Despite the stupidly sticky floors I will definitely be making my way back here to see some more top quality music.
