chilled, mixed crowd, friendly atmosphere, good drink promotions and fairly cheap, more of a relaxed pub than bar (i’d class this as a dive pub lol) does what it says on the tin, good place to start the night rather than spend the night, pleasant overall

First time visiting Chester so it was first time in this pub, the staff were friendly and the food was good value and tasty with large portions. the pub is clean. the only thing that stopped me giving five stars is a member of staff wanted to clean the menus while we were sitting there, even though he asked if it was ok I personally don’t think it should be done while customers are at the table.
will visit again when in Chester next

Only braved a poor half of Greene King IPA.
Shamethis is not a bad looking pub and offers some cosy booths to sit in. Now if they could just get some better beers.

Went to the Sunday Night Karaōke, had a bit of sing myself, its a good laugh, the night goes on until well past 12 midnight.

My first time in England I visited Chester. After a long day of tourist-​y stuff, I sat down with Liverpudlian natives and we were all happy.
I had a tuna melt and tea which was very reasonably priced. The bathroom was clean and the staff was accommodating.
If I ever find myself 4,000 miles away from home again, I would stop here.

If you are on a day trip and looking for a nice lunch PLEASE DON’T GO TO THIS PUB. It was 1.30PM and the pub wasn’t very busy, we chose a table by the window and decided to have the ‘day trip special’ of fish and chips served with tea and bread and butter. The meal arrived in reasonable time but my husband’s chips were cold and the fish was over-​cooked but just about eatable. The bit of salad on the side looked very tired and although we had asked for the tea to be brought first it wasn’t until we had finished our meal that we got it, after having to ask twice where it had got to. Apart from the horrible uht milk one of the teapots was cracked, no apology was made for anything and we got the distinct impression nobody cared as we were only there for the day so unlikely to be back. One of the nicest things about a day out is having a good lunch and although we tried hard not to let it spoil our day it still leaves a bitter taste and puts us off going to Chester again. Wish the management would read some of these comments, I know I wish I’d read the reviews before-​hand we would have gone elsewhere for sure.

Singularly one of the worst pubs I have ever had the misfortune to go into. When most of the cliental who frequent there were born the life guard at the gene pool had a day off.

I’m not sure who the portrait above the sign here represents but since it’s a Tudor lady, the chances are very good that the name can be read as a gruesome joke. After all, from Boleyn to Jane Grey, almost all the Tudor queens wound up with their neck on an executioner’s block at some point in their life… towards the end, obviously.
This gives you some idea of the rough and ready nature of the pub. Being in Chester means it’s a glorious old building that outshines most places from my Liverpudlian neck of the woods, but it’s not as lovely as its neighbours. Awkwardly hogging a chunk of a busy street means once you step outside you’ll bump into a hurrying shopper so I’d advise staying inside to drink. It’s just plain sensible is what it is.

Don’t let the dark and run-​down nature of this place put you off. Sure the carpets are scruffy and seating dirty, but the food here is great both in terms of quantity and value for money. What you get is no-​nonsense pub grub served by very friendly staff; our food arrived in about 10 minutes.

We always enjoy a night at the queens head as your never sure what to expect.
A good old fashioned traditional pub with no airs an graces.
Pay it a visit even if its just to have a nose.
