What I miss about Manchester is the number of places we can go for breakfast/brunch. We got up early to go to market and do most of our shop there, and found that one of the butchers has a café area where we could have breakfast. They also do a lot of roasts, sausage rolls, and sandwiches if you want a bite while you are working through the market, you can pop in here as well. For under £5, you can get a cooked breakfast… sausage, bacon, eggs, tinned tomatoes, mushrooms, and you can have toast or you can go with the Derbyshire Oatcake. I chose the oatcake and it was very much like a thick, savory crêpe. Breakfast was cheap and cheerful. They also have a cake and hot drink special before 11 a.m. and after 2 p.m. It is definitely a place where the locals come in and they don’t have to tell the lady at the till what they want because she already knows. They have seating across from the deli area, but there is also additional seating upstairs with a view of the shop. After having breakfast, you can walk to the other side of the shop to take a look at the pies and meats you can purchase and take home. We saw a ‘Market Special’ which was £30 for a joint of beef, chicken breasts, pork chops, bacon, sausage, and rump steaks. We decided it was a good deal and would last us for a bit. They package everything separately, so it makes it convenient for freezing and actually we still have the rump steaks and just used the sausages last night. All of the meat has been lovely, I just wish that there was parking right next to the shop and that they were open when I finish work at 6 because I would love to support the local shops.
