we stayed here twice and had a nice room and a very hearty breakfast although the first time the bed was a bit lumpy but all was forgiven because everything else was good.

Our first experience of the Nags was during the Christmas party season when we dropped in on a Friday evening for a drink and were greeted with an overwhelming aroma of brussel sprouts from the carvery. A group of us decided to give it a try for Sunday lunch earlier this year as we were in Chichester anyway. We found the carvery tasteless and lack lustre, although the place was rammed. Unfortunately, we found ourselves there again this weekend, by default as we like to eat later than the usual 2 o’clock when most places stop Sunday service. Third time lucky… not! I ordered the duck cooked nice and pink and ended up with the sole of an old shoe served up with a soggy potato ‘something’, overcooked sugar snaps and some baby sweetcorn. I sent it back to the kitchen and asked for it to be removed from the bill. In all fairness, I received a sincere apology and the offer of anything else on the menu, or the ubiquitous carvery but declined as I don’t trust chefs when their food is returned. The Nags is now definitely off our list and we may have to re-educate our digestive systems to eat earlier in the day in future on Sunday.

This is a beautiful looking old pub with really nice comfortable seating that is ideal to lounge about on a Sunday and enjoy a long lunch. The staff are great and happy enough to see new faces as well as lookig after their locals. They have an excellent carvery which I know is a little bit 80s but it is really good quality and the portions are huge. We went there last Sunday and I had the gammon and turkey, both were cooked to perfection and not in any way dry. Plenty of real ales on offer and a good selection of house wines make this a great place to head to to really fill yourself up!

This is the best place to go if you want a carvery. You will need to book on a Sunday as they get very busy in there. The carvery wasn’t as good when I went in the week but where Sundays are so busy, the food is constantly replenished and is always fresh. Yorkshire puddings are homemade and you have a choice of beef, turkey and gammon plus a selection of vegetables. Carvery costs £10 per person.

A large pub with comfy chairs and also a very big light and bright seating area in the restaurant. The Nags Head offers an extensive choice of dishes as well as a carvery option with at least 2 choices of meat. I have eaten here quite a few times and have always had a delicious meal– I usually have the carvery meal but the other options have also been recommended by friends. There is a carpark behind the pub, but as this is used by patrons of surrounding businesses aswell, it can be a bit difficult to find a space there. The cattle market car park is not far away however, and there are usually plenty of spaces there.
