My experience wasn’t quite as bad as Dr. Z’s. The hotel is in a nice, quaint village, and is housed in quite a beautiful building. Our room was, indeed, pretty drab. The bathroom was nice and clean and had decent toiletries(can’t recall what brand, but one I knew). The bed was comfortable, as were the pillows. The décor was not trying to impress by any means, but the room seemed clean. We ate dinner at the smaller restaurant, which was pretty good. We were a little intrigued by the«Pudding Club,» so of course wanted to order dessert. They were out of whatever I ordered, so the waiter said he thought he knew what I was going after. When he brought me my dessert it looked like nothing I would ever order, but I have to tell you, it was delicious! The breakfast next morning was typical English fare, but was good and tasty. Overall, a pretty good stay.

This lah-de-dah hotel famous for its«pudding club» and located in a very attractive little Cotswold village looks great at first glance, but made for a thoroughly disappointing stay. The room décor is old and tired(there were stains and tears on the dowdy chair in our room); the breakfast room crowded and cramped; and after an initial warm welcome, the staff later seemed just about willing to tolerate us. Simple requests were refused, only begrudgingly met or ignored entirely. We became uncomfortable asking them to accommodate any small need, which is just as well because they seem to charge«extra» for everything. In the morning, the cleaning staff un-hygienically placed our(and all other guests’) «fresh» towels on the hall carpet(!) outside the door when changing the linens in each room. Downstairs, the breakfast room was packed full with a loud party of wedding guests, so we were once again ignored. I had to ask three times for utensils, and each time I was made to feel as if I was a great inconvenience for needing them. When the hostess finally placed a set on a tray in front of me, before I could get any food on my plate, a random guest reached past me and grabbed the utensils. It was too disorganized, so people were grabbing what they could. It was incongruous with the impression of a luxury hotel that is presented upon arrival. There were no rolls or bread visible, so I waited 15 minutes for a slice of bread from the same uppity hostess unable to mask her contempt. Although the cooked breakfast was plentiful, to top it all off, we got unwell stomachs shortly after. It seems that if you’re just a one-night guest stopping in and not staying for a pudding club or expensive Cotswold weekend package, the service is not as good. I couldn’t wait to check out. For the hefty price, I expected much more. This drab hotel masquerading as a luxurious unfortunately doesn’t live up to its reputation. How disappointing.

Three ways hotel is a privately run hotel in the Cotswolds, it is also home to the Pudding Club! The Pudding Club is a night held a few times a month were you can go and eat as much of you can of 7 traditional English puddings. The club was established to stop the demise of the tradtional English pudding. I stayed here is May 2006 as I received a hotel say and night at the pudding club as a Xmas pressie. The hotel has many rooms as well as 7 pudding themed rooms including the chocolate and the syrup sponge room. The pudding evening starts with drinks in a small room before you are called through to the dining room. You are given a light meal of chicken and veg and potatoes before the pudding parade begins. The 7 puddings are paraded in front of you and you are called up a table at a time to collect one piece of pudding served with custard, cream or chocolate custard. You can only return after all tables are served and your table has been called again and only if your bowl is empty, this happens 7 times and then after that you can just get up and eat as much as you want if your bowl is clean! I love pudding, more that the average person and thought I could get through all the puddings and extra, I managed 6!!! From what I can remember we had Sticky toffee, Lord Randall’s, oriental ginger, a crumble and the rest I cannot remember. For a different weekend away it is well worth a trip, although quite expensive. The rooms are nice, the staff are friendly and the surroundings are wonderful to explore!
