The Belfry has been a regular spot for me for a take out lunch for the past 15 years. In that time, it hasn’t changed inside but still manages not to seem dated. Maybe that’s because my attention is always fixed firmly on the food in the chiller cabinets. The Belfry is always busy and it’s not hard to see why. You choose from a French stick, bread, bagel, wrap or roll, all of which are just baked fresh, and then choose your fillings. The fillings aren’t the most imaginative but boy are they good. Crispy bacon, grated cheddar that tastes like a good strong cheddar and not plastic, fresh salad, chicken, turkey and proper off the bone ham. Prices are very competitive given how fresh and tasty the sandwiches are at around £3 each and the French sticks are enormous. You can also get lasagne, chicken pie, etc and chorizo, cheese, pâté and sun blush tomatoes if you fancy a little picnic. There’s also a fab range of chutneys, biscuits, crackers and jams etc which look just as good in your kitchen as they taste when you scoff them. A definite and lasting favourite of mine.

Situated on one of the side streets off the main shopping area this is a rather small little eatery. Most of the seating is in fact outside which obviously does not bode well for a poor day weather wise. Aside from this they offer a good selection of breads, salads, and sweets. Its a clean and inviting place with nice staff who are quick and effiecient. You would pay slightly more than your run of the mill bakery bu I think thats to be expected in places such as this.
