Duty Free shopping at Heathrow airport is wonderful in terms of selection particularly when it comes to cosmetics, perfume, liquor, and tobacco. I particularly enjoy shopping for cosmetics and perfume because you can freely move among brand to brand, grabbing exactly what you want/need without any interference from sales people as you would in a department store. However, you do not obtain any savings as you may have years ago in part because of the current strength of the British pound. In addition, the options at the British Airways terminal are not nearly as good as they are at Virgin(this is true for food as they are for duty free). This is more of a sham than a bargain. People are induced to buy because they are on vacation and thus will spend more freely than they would ordinarily. So, buy that $ 140 of perfume you wish you received for Valentine’s Day. World of Duty Free will have it along with a lovely shade of lipstick to make you feel sexier than ever!

OMG… can you say CHOCOLATEHEAVEN!!! Sis and I were in awe of the amount of chocolate selection they have and of course, we went a TAD bit crazy. I got a couple of packs of miniature Cadbury fruit and nut for the familia at home… those big Toblerone… and some English Breakfast tea… damage to the wallet: $ 100US … excessive… perhaps… worth it… HELLYAH! They also have a ton of alcohol /liquor available… perfume and make up but the sis and I could care less about them… yep… sole focus were those damn chocolates!!! To all you chocoholics… ENJOY … I know I did!!! PS: Friendly and helpful customer services and cashiers! That definitely added to my already given happiness!

Booze seems good value and I guess you save the VAT(soon to increase to 20%) Always worth asking for a free«sample» when purchasing perfumes!

For those of you who know what it is to shop Duty Free, this is the place. Not all Duty Free shops are created equal. Heathrow’s Duty Free is by far my favorite. Many upscale shops(even Harrod’s has a shop here) to save on that are A LOT cheaper then any prices in the US(including US Duty Free shops). Most likely because of proximity, but its best to buy anything scotch, cognac or Burberry because you will never get a deal like this in the US. Case in point I saved $ 220 on a 30 year old bottle of Highland Park!!! You can even buy a raffle ticket for a choice of cars that were on display in Terminal 1 including a Ferrari 430 coupe for 20 quid($ 32.00). It may sound silly, but make sure and schedule your trip to have at least 2 hours to look around.

World of Duty Free sounds like a kind of low-cost online multiplayer game. But cruise it’s very many aisles and you’ll find something completely different. No self-respecting traveller can’t find a reason not to stop here. Even if all you have in your wallet after your holiday in London is an oily piece of newspaper from yesterday’s fish and chips and a Polaroid photograph of you pulling a face next to the Queen’s guards. They stock everything you’ll need in the form of alcohol, cigarettes, fragrances, cosmetics and other accessories that would make great gifts for yourself or the unlucky ones that had to stay at home. There is so much available in the two WODF stores Terminal 1 offers you that you’d better double check what time your flight leaves. You don’t want to start coughing after testing too many fragrances at the same time a kindly woman announces your need to get to the boarding gate.
