I would want to rate Moonsha at 3.5 but rounded it up to 4 because the good outweighs the few negatives. We visited this restaurant for the first time on Wednesday evening. Whilst it is a good Japanese restaurant, one of very few in the local area, we have had better and at a much more reasonable price. The atmosphere in the restaurant is nice, the teppanyaki show interesting to watch and the staff attentive and very friendly. I would however criticise the pace of the meal and the interrupted flow of service. All dishes were brought out when they were ready, regardless of whether other people at the table were eating or awaiting something. This meant some members of the party were eating whilst others were chatting, and were then left waiting for the others to finish. I also feel that for a vegetarian the prices were VERY over inflated. 6 pieces of vegetable maki sushi were £4.90. The choice was also quite limited compared to other japanese restaurants that I have frequented. I was also very disappointed to not find any tofu dishes on the set menus and teppanyaki. My tip for a great japanese dining experience,(very popular with the local japanese community in Nottingham) at a much better price is Bonsai restaurant in Nottingham. Amazing Teppanyaki set menu at a great price!!!

I went here for the second time yesterday and had the special Sunday teppanyaki set menu. The food was really tasty(especially the tiger prawns) and i like the relax way off eating a little bit at a time as it is cooked in front of you. The staff are really friendly and the chefs are a good laugh and try hard to keep you entertained. It is not the cheapest place to eat in Derby but the Sunday set menu was very reasonable at £12.90 each and is something different to most of the other restaurants in Derby. I will definitely go back soon.

Made my second visit to this restaurant last night and just like the first visit the food was excellent. This time we opted to eat from the menu rather than the set meal which is cooked in front of you and we weren’t disappointed. Whilst not the cheapest place to eat I think it is worth the money and the staff are very good. Although they did add a tip to the bill which is supposed to be for parties of 6 or more and there was only two of us!

This is a great restaurant, the staff are attentive and subtle with a friendly approach. I’d never eaten in a proper Japanese restaurant before, so we explained this, and the service was excellent ! Our waiter was friendly and listened to our concerns. He suggested some dishes, and carefully explained them to us, then left us for a while to decide. Never did we feel rushed or an inconvenience to them. It’s ideal for party groups, and I recommend you sit at the bar for that style of food. Very exciting, however we noticed that some couples were sat there too, and were a little overwhelmed by the flashes of flames, smoke and the general theatrical goings on. Plus it’s hard to talk to someone when you’re sat side by side. You’re better off sitting at table. I highly recommend this restaurant.

This was such a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere special but fun to celebrate with family or friends. We sat at the tepanyaki table in the centre of the room and had a wonderful evening watching the chefs perform their signature tricks, getting the diners involved and making jokes. The lively atmosphere would be great for kids, as long as they’re not too fussy with their food(it is mostly traditional Japanese). Not cheap, but worth every penny.
