Been a member of Fitness First and also David Lloyd but nothing yet beats Virgin Active at Derby.
I am back there again and this time to stay hopefully.

Having been to David Lloyds and JJB, I’d say this is the best of the three. Good gym facilities, better water based facilities though staff are a bit rubbish generally — not sure how they recruit/​train them — value for money.

This Virgin Vie clinic is situated within the Virgin Active health club.
My strong recomendation here is the excellent quality of treatments on offer… Massages start from 22.00 and it really is value for money. The girls have all trained at professional health spa resorts and really know what they’re doing.
They also offer lots of beauty treatments– I personally can not comment on these as I have not had a beauty treatment here before. I am told they are very good and they are always busy so that must be a good sign hey?!

This is a really well run leisure centre with a massive gym and lovely pool and sauna etc.
They set you up with a programme in the gym and the staff are great at keeping you motivated. It is a sociable place where people often meet just for coffee.
I was impressed with the style and cleanliness of the changing rooms and pool area and the way that the staff make you feel welcome from your first visit.

As gyms go, Virgin offers fantastic facilities for all the family but has a really relaxed atmosphere.
The staff are welcoming and friendly and the décor is all very bright and cheerfull. Although they are obviously wanting to promote fitness and being active they are all very smiley and you dont feel under pressure in what you choose to do or wear etc.
They have a nice café offereing great coffees and free internet access.
There is also a beauty salon on site and club V where they run a kids club.
The wet area is great and has the biggest jacuzzi ever!
