For the first time in our 40+ years experience of eating out we were actually turned away from a pub/​restaurant before we got anywhere near the door! After driving over 40 km to lunch at this place, we approached the entrance and a man came out, said they’d «got the builders in» and they wouldn’t be open for «about another hour». We got a half-​hearted «sorry» as we walked away. No offer of a drink while we waited or an alternative nearby. Dreadful couldn’t care less attitude. So we have no way of commenting on the food etc, and as a result of this shabby treatment we never will. If it is on a par with their customer service then we were probably lucky not to lunch there!

this is a lovely pub in Sprotborough, in a lovely location, next to the Canal, so you can have a drink/​meal after/​before walking. It is pleasant inside and serves standard pub grub. There is a really nice courtyard area outside which is great in the summer and has plenty of tables, although it is disappointing that you can’t see the canal from the courtyard.
In the summer, they do boat trips on a Sunday from this pub to Conisborough, a couple of miles up the canal. It costs about £4−5 if I remember correctly. A really nice day out for the family can include a walk, a boat trip and a meal. Great!

This idylic location is host to a fine pub, with a good range of lovely food.
You can either sit inside on the comfy chairs or, sit out in the courtyard.
