An absolutely beautiful Elizabethan building, of which part is still lived in by its current owners, who made many of the changes to the gardens which have made them more child-friendly. It’s a great family day out with giant games of chess, snakes and ladders etc to play in the gardens, a maze and a woodland walk. The tour of the house is one of the most interesting for children that I’ve been on, with tales of ghosts etc. There’s a courtyard area with a café and gift shop. The café’s not badly priced and does nice, simple food. Off the courtyard there is a children’s play area and pets’ corner, where they can stroke guinea pigs(if they can catch them!) A good time of year to go is in the spring when the daffodils are out, it’s just lovely. You can eat a picnic at benches and tables in amongst them.

Burton Agness hall is a fine example of an Elizabethan home, surrounded by well kept tranquil gardens with topiary and sprawling lawned areas, great for picnics and kids to run around. The hall itself is most impressive with wonderfully ornate furnishings, sculptures and paintings. The guide was very knowledgeable telling us all about the hall’s history and the present owners family. There was a lift for the use of wheelchairs so the whole house was accessible, a very good day out at a wonderful old English home.
