Went with the wife just to check it out, will definitely be returning. It’s by no means fine dining but the foods very good and the price is even better. Good food great price and excellent service. :)

We went here for lunch and it was really great. The décor is somewhat rough around the edges but it all adds to the charm of what is a fantastic pizzeria. Staff are great and the table service is quick.

You know when you’ve been sightseeing and touring all day and you’re really down for dinner and all the places you had bookmarked to eat at didn’t impress your friends so you end up walking up and down the streets and find a restaurant that you all love? That was La Spaghettata :) The four of us went for dinner and were seated right away with menus. We all decided on pastas(Pasta cooked with vodka, fettuccine with flakes of smoked salmon, and gnocchi with peas) and one of us got baked salmon(which also came with pasta… carb party!). A calamari appetizer was ordered and although I didn’t have any, it heard it was nice and light despite being fried. A number of waiters kept coming to our section and looking at us and we couldn’t really figure out why until one of us asked us if we were ready for our main course(who would’ve thought! I thought it was cute). The food then came right away. For the prices paid for the pastas(7.50 pounds which is around 14 dollars), the portions were very very good; i was stuffed and couldn’t finish mine! Also they’re very generous with their own… ask them for a glass of red wine and you’ll get a full glass… a bit odd lol. Also, all pastas and pizzas come with a salad but we didn’t know until we finished out food(there’s a self serve salad bar on the other side of the restaurant) This is probably a personal opinion, but there is nothing I love more than going to a restaurant that radiates with culture. Minus the mainstream music, the decorations and Italian waiters and cooks really did it for me. Everyone was so sweet and kind. Come and eat, you won’t be disappointed. **Just for all my fellow carbaholics out there… they have spaghetti pizza. YUP, you read that correctly. Pizza with spaghetti on top. Carbs galore!**

I like eating here but the queuing system has to be looked into. you can wait ages on the cold stairs for a table and they dont allow reservations.

Very good food for the prices, although not the best Italian I’ve ever been to. The pastas though are very good. Very popular with students as it’s so cheap and good for a birthday party or meal with friends as you can book the room upstairs for a large group. The staff are friendly, however, they have been known to get orders wrong, although they do put them right as quickly as possible. The décor and music are stereotypically Italian. If there’s a massive queue for tables you can always go upstairs to Fabios and get a drink while you wait, which is good.

This is the sort of place to go if food is your second priority after alcohol. When drunk the food I’m sure would do the job but without that advantage it’s pretty average. Cheap and cheerful for students but for those wanting a bit more, there are better places in Durham to go.

La spaghettata, or ‘spags’ is a classic cheap and cheerful night out. free garlic bread with your first bottle of house wine and the waiting staff will sing happy birthday for you if you like. you’ll have to queue on friday and saturday nights, but not for too long. Normally filled with students who don’t want to cook! you can always pop upstairs afterwards for drinks in fabios, or, if you’re having a big party, book the upstairs room for up to 21 people.

This is without doubt the best italian restaurant in Durham! Every time I’ve been in, the food has been excellent and the staff extremely polite and helpful. I always tend to go towards the Spaghetti Bolognese with a glass of wine, and it never disappoints! I really should try something new, just to see if the rest of the menu is as good, but why rock the boat?! The food is reasonably priced and the often have on some really good special offers. it can get really busy, but that’s all part of the fun! I can highly recommend this place, 5 stars!

just HAVE to give this place 5 stars, even though it’s not a 5 star sort of place, if you know what I mean. It is very popular with students, and cheap and cheerful is probably a good description. The food is excellent, although it is sometimes flung at you, such is the speed of the staff, who are obviously trying to get as many in and out in record time(only an issue at busy times, mainly week-ends) I have waited in a queue to get in here, and believe me, I’m not a queuing type person! There are usually plenty of offers, like free bottle of house wine if you order 2 courses, or free garlic bread with pasta dishes, free salad bar visit with all orders, that kind of thing, that makes it even better value. Ideal venue for a group of girlfriends to enjoy time together, flirting with the waiters is a must, especially Max, who is such good fun. We choose to go on a quiter night and set up camp there for the evening. We ALWAYS have the prawns to start, me, with lemon, the others with garlic, divine. Then we drool over the pasta choices and end up with the same each time, ha ha. The carbonara is ab fab. I aways choose it because I can’t make it myself! We share a couple of garlic breads and several bottles of house red. We usually skip dessert(as full of wine) but sometimes opt for a posh coffee just before we fall out of the restaurant. It is very rare that we spend much over £20 each. And we’ve always had such a great time. Have also enjoyed romantic evening here with my beloved, but the asmosphere is fmore fun and lively, great for youngsters first date.

La Spag is a hectic little spot — often extremely busy. The service can suffer as a result, especially for smaller tables. The servers are usually helpful and the service is prompt. But on occasion I have been left at a table for over half an hour waiting to pay a bill. This is the exception though. La Spag is a cheap’n’cheerful pizza and pasta joint. The prices have changed over the years, but for about £4 you get a main course and a side salad. This means a couple can have starters, mains, wine and coffee and have change from £30, or very easily from £40. But cheap’n’cheerful doesn’t lend itself to good food. The food is usually on the bland side. The salad is a choice of tinned corn, beans, canned beetroot and dull lettuce with dressing. There are better italian restaurants in Durham for similar prices. Ricardo’s is a little further from the centre, but another 5 minutes walk gives far better food and service.
