The best part about this place is that they are open for delivery at 1pm. If that sounds like a rather vague compliment, it’s because it is. Call me a glass half full sort of gal, but I will still tip the hat to any place that can feed me indian take out in the middle of the afternoon. Most afternoons, I can’t be bothered to cook lunch and after exhausting all my local neighbourhood options this week, I had a hankering for a good curry. Unfortunately, my few indian food staples don’t open until 5pm, so I took to the internet for help. Abida is probably one of the only indian places in town that does delivery during lunch hour. Gold stars for you Abida. Would I order it again? Yes, probably. Would I order it when my other places are open? Not likely. Here’s the speedy run down: I ordered rice, Aloo Gobi(potatoes and cauliflower) and Chicken Korma. The order arrived in just under an hour and was about £15, so no complaints there(seeing as though i’ve been eating it for the rest of the day). The online ordering process is quick and they also serve Thai food — which is both handy and confusing. The Aloo Gobi was nice and I wish I had ordered a larger portion but am equally happy they have side sized dishes as well. For £3.50 it was a decent little add on to the meal. The Chicken Korma however, wasn’t quite up to snuff. For lack of a better word, it was too… grainy? I don’t often go for korma, unless i’m seeking some seriously sweet, creamy curry coma and this just didn’t fit the bill. It felt like the kind of curry you get at the shop and microwave. I’d pass on this one. So overall, the meal was edible and relatively tasty, without really being memorable at all. I would go back to these folks if an indian food craving came on at noon(which it does — often) but they didn’t tempt me enough to pop them on the regular roster. Not bad, not great but 100% a.ok.

Close to the Marriott, easy walking distance, but they deliver for anything over 12 pounds(order online!). Food arrived fast and very hot! Food was good quality for the price — spicy mushrooms were excellent!

After being thoroughly hacked off and walking out of the newly opened ‘Spice Lounge’, we decided that change is never good and moved down the hill to Abida. Once again all four of us dined like royalty on a lovely selection of Indian favourites. Service was good and we were even given what we didn’t finish away with us. Only bit of advice, stick to the bottled Cobra as the draught tasted a bit watery.

Lovely food never had a bad meal yet, and it’s great to have access to Thai food without having to go all the way into the City Centre. Never tried the Indian menu which is the primary cuisine, but I hear through friends that it’s just as good. Also, the staff are really attentive and pride themselves on giving a really good service to customers. There’s even a couple of really good looking waiters which is always a bonus! Finally, to top it all off, they also offer a takeaway and delivery service that stretches several miles they even deliver as far as Broxburn! Well done Abida you certainly have earned your 5 star rating!!!

When I come back to visit the family I always try to grab a cheeky wee Indian takeaway. Since Abida is pretty handy location wise(no need to venture down-town) it’s my usual place to go… The quality of the food is def picking up since my last review. This time we shared : — Chicken tikka(not masala) — even though it didnt come with a sauce, it was succulent and tasty. Chicken Korma — exactly what you would expect — mild, creamy & yummy! Lamb Biriani — rich and filling, the lamb was cooked to perfection. I couldn’t end this Unilocal, without mentioning the amazing Pershwari nan — it rocked!

The muter paneer was a bit runny for me but tasted ok. As main entrée I had the karahi murghi keema massalla, which was good but not awesome. It’s somewhat odd to see only western dessert in the menu, but nevertheless the one I had(something with biscuit and ice cream) was excellent. Will give a try again in the future.
