Lovely looking bar and a majority of bar staff are warm, helpful and prompt. But unfortunate this pub has become famous for it”s regulars running the show! If one of the ring leaders decides your face doesn’t fit you will be intimidated and bullied. The topics of conversation on occasion can be sexist, racist and homophonic. With a general gutter humour. Many members of the local community are really fed up , as this has gone on for such a long time. If the owners see this review …, listen we all understand that these said regulars have must’ve spent a lot of money in that bar but it doesn’t give them the right to behave like aggressive teenagers egging each other on in the knowledge that no staff will say anything .It’s just a bunch of pissed middle aged men treating the place like it’s there little gang hut. You have to get them emptied as they are destroying that nice little pub.

Walked in and they have a lovely place at the back to sit down and relax. A warm fireplace which gives the setting a traditional, warming welcome of a pub.

Great wee pub, especially on Sunday nights as the Jammy Devils play every week! Went in a couple of Thursday nights ago and they had a different band in as well who were really good.
Amazing strawberry beer on tap — Fruli! Tastes divine!

Best Sunday evening in town. Without a shadow of a doubt.
As the oldest pub in Leith (so they say), it is quirky and charming. I can’t describe it but recommend that you go, even if only for a pint. It’s not a wide open pub with loads of seating and elbow room. It’s a place you go to to feel like you’re in a proper pub. Smallish but well stocked bar, good options on tap, and really reasonable prices. Gin and Hendricks, £3.50. Pint of Amstel, £3.80.
I went this past sunday with my last £4.00 from the wild weekend, and got myself a pint of good beer. And why not! Because through the back, is a smallish room full of character, good banter, laughter and even better music! The Jammy Devils play here, typically, every Sunday. Not the full band mind you, drums wouldn’t fit. I’m actually very excited to be reviewing both this pub and my favourite Scottish band. They play such a diverse and exciting range of hits, that you can’t help but jump up and dance to, even in such small quarters. They are funny, natural, and incredibly talents. I can’t hear ‘Sunshine on Leith,’ and ‘American Pie’ and not think of the way they sing and play it. Sometimes… better than the original artists.
Sunday evenings here are my ultimate favourite of the week. You see familiar faces, that always say hi, and it’s a great pick me up from the weekend you might have just had. A great way to close the week, or begin it. If I could, I would go every Sunday evening. It’s not a late one, get there early, about 6 for seats through the back, otherwise you are left standing. But I suppose that is part of the charm, it gets so rammed everyone just laughs about it. The band begins playing about 7, and finish about half 8. Enough for a couple pints, laughs with friends, and the overall good feeling you get to singing along to quality music.

Fantastic boozer, very much felt like an old mans pub but then we were introduced to the rear of the bar. Huge fire, massive comfy couches and the day we were there on a random Thursday, we were treated to two guys playing with a banjo and a guitar. There was a great sense of ease about he whole pub and so different.

Best it seems to get in here early if you want a seat. We arrived around 9pm so only stayed for one pint as it was standing room only by that time. Reasonable atmosphere though, good range of ales and the bag of books I managed to leave behind was safe under the bar until I went to retrieve it the following night (when it looked to again be impossible to get a seat and that was at 8 on a Sunday) so probably somewhere I’d frequent again.

One of the best bars in Edinburgh by far. Ignore the poor reviews, the pub is good. The bar is quite often cramped as it is so small but there are usually plenty seats available in the lounge to the rear of the place. Very good selection of draught beers, and the bar is well stocked with spirits etc too. Carriers Quarters is an ideal place to spend a few hours, wether you want to chill out with friends, watch sports or live music it is always fun.

One of the worst pubs in Leith — food is pretty dull and often you could easily be waiting an hour (or more) for a plate of nachos or a toastie, sometimes longer. Despite it being one of the closest pubs to where I work, I’ll do just about anything to get out of going there.

Everyone seems to love this place, but I don’t get the hype. If you go for lunch the food is poor and takes ages to arrive; everyone goes on about the pies but they’re pretty average and when I got one there was unidentified white goo floating in the gravy (hopefully it was just beef fat). One day I went with a few friends, two of us ordered nachos. The first plate of nachos arrived around about the same time as the other mains and honestly we waited 20 minutes for the next plate. It’s a bag of doritos with melted cheese and salsa on top, what’s the hold up? And no apology when it eventually arrived either. The seats are quite uncomfortable, yeah there’s a nice big room at the back but then you have to squeeze out down a tiny corridor to get to the bar or to fresh air.

The first time I went there I wasn’t too impressed as it’s bit too «local» for me so I wasn’t bothered about going back. However, a friend thought it was great so I agreed to go for a few beers — they do have some good beers on tap — and we discovered the wee room at the back. It was like night and day and I love the place now. They have a couple of sofas, a nice tv, a cosy fire place and just a real nice relaxed feel. I believe they have bands playing on Sunday afternoons too.
It’s really small though, so if you can’t get a seat, there’s not really much room to stand either.

We went on a little trip down to the sunny shore and I got major food envy, my dining partner ordered pie and chips while I ordered the nachos. His came out looking like an M&S advert and mine was without a doubt cheesy Doritos covered in tuna mayo. I was gutted. But! It did taste quite nice and I have to admit I have copied the «recipe» at home when Ive been a bit tipsy.
There’s a huge back room which is a bit cold but it’s got an interesting collection of seats and is great if there’s loads of you as during the day it doesn’t tend to get that busy. Reasonable prices for drinks and very reasonable staff attitudes.

The lunchtime pies, mash and mushy peas are amazing! I despaired when I ceased working on Stafford Street — where could possibly match Berts on William Street for good old-​fashioned well-​cooked stodge? But I have a new comfort food location on my new doorstep.
Cosy chairs, crackling fire, monster munch for a starter, a great house red and a range of ales. What more could you want on a cold winter’s morn?

Visited for the first time today. Was a Tuesday evening, place was quiet but not empty. Comfy chairs, good service and reasonable prices. Will definately be back.

on a sunday Carriers have a fabby band on, who keep you in the spirit of things, the place is ALWAYS packed though, and it is a very small pub, great atmosphere.
